Ernie Tichenor

Man Accused of Soliciting 13-Year-Old for Sex Online:

Voldemort’s trashy cousin over there is Ernie Tichenor of Fairfax, Virginia. Police say that he allegedly posted ads on craigslist with such titles as “Dominant handsome professor for naughty young student”.

It seems that one if his respondents was a 13-year-old girl that he allegedly had sexual e-mail exchanges with. The girl’s mother found the e-mails and contacted police.

What really disturbs me is that in the comments section for this article there is way too many people who think that child solicitation isn’t a real crime.

However parents should be not allowing their kids to be anywhere near craigslist.

Not the mall cop in question

Mall security guard charged with pimping teen girls:

Allegedly 25-year-old Cooper Kweme of Arlington, Virginia has been charged with allegedly prostituting a 16-year-old girl on the Village Voice Media owned backpage.com.

According to the FBI Kwispy Kweme posed as a teenage girl on Tagged.com, which is an even lower rent Myspace-like site, in order to recruit the girl. After he revealed himself to be male he allegedly told her that he was a real cop and that his Tagged profile was the profile he used to catch online predators. Speaking of police we should call the irony police on that one.

So he had sex (child rape) with the girl before prostituting her out on backpage where he would pay the extra fee to keep the ad high on backpage’s listings.

After his arrest he told investigators that he would also use his position as mall cop to try to recruit others for his ‘escort service’.

So not only is backpage doing noting to combat child prostitution on their site, they’re also collecting money for it to happen more often.

I also recommend reading the entire criminal complaint. It makes for very interesting yet disgusting reading.

William Geister

Portsmouth man gets 9 years for child porn:

I originally posted about 44-year-old William Geister of Portsmouth, Virginia here. He was arrested for soliciting children on craigslist by posting ads that said such things as “Any cute teen girls want to get together now?” and “Looking for any teen girls that want to get together for some fun in the bedroom.” He got 5 years for that.

During the investigation police discovered over 2400 images of child porn on Geister’s computer that included pictures of children being bound and whipped. For that he got 9 years.

Usually with child solicitation like this it means that this is probably not their first rodeo and they’ve probably molested children before. In my experience, which I will admit is through mostly anecdotal evidence, is that sentences for child porn possession are stiffer than actual sexual offenses with children. While both are equally reprehensible in my opinion the sentences for both need to be equally as harsh and both of these sentences are way too light.

That picture makes me want to break into song…

Here’s a story/These guys are shady/They were looking to pick up some minor girls…

If you don’t what song that is you need to get off my lawn. But I digress…

Men Nabbed in Online Sex Sting:

Police in Louisa County, Virginia arrested five men in conjunction with a sex sting on both backpage and craigslist. Allegedly the five men either posted ads looking for sex with minors or responded to ads placed by law enforcement.

Those arrested were…

23-year-old Shakir Moore of Richmond
55-year-old Thomas Jefferson Dudley of Charlottesville
22-year-old Christopher Anderson of Charlottesville
32-year-old Adam Toghill of Richmond

In addition to those arrests, investigators also arrested 26-year-old Joseph McDaniel of Goochland. He is charged with using a communication system to solicit a child, 15 to 18 years old, for sex.

The first four, who are pictured above, were charged with trying to solicit sex online from someone younger than 15.

Once again I would imagine that the highly touted community policing on both backpage and craigslist failed to flag any of these ads. Plus I can hazard a guess that neither site worked in conjunction with law enforcement on this because if they did they would be using it as PR to show how they’re helping.

Let’s also not forget that these ads can be prevented by either moderating the personals and casual encounters sections.

Lastly this also show what class of criminal is trolling these sites for their victims.

If you, the consumer, wanted to help protect children from becoming the victims of sexual predators like this I would recommend boycotting both sites.

UPDATE 6/4/2011: Moore (bottom-right) has been found guilty.

UPDATE 10/17/2011: Christopher Anderson (top, right) has also been convicted. He’s looking at 30 years.

24 arrested in NN prostitution sting:

Police in Newport News, Viriginia arrested 24 various members of the prostitution transaction cycle by using the Village Voice Media owned classifieds site backpage.com.

One of the alleged prostitutes that was picked up was a 17-year-old girl. So again I have to ask backpage how those steps are coming along to prevent child prostitution?

Still the same answer I see.

Again, on Geebo.com no child has ever been trafficked.

McKinley C. Joyner

Police: Man Arrested for Forcing Women to Perform Sex Act in Crystal City:

Police in Arlington, Virginia have arrested 33-year-old McKinley C. Joyner for allegedly raping two women at gunpoint that he met through the Village Voice Media owned backpage.com. The article says that he forced them to perform a sex act but isn’t that rape?

Anyway Joyner allegedly procured the services of a prostitute on backapge and when she got to his place he forced her to perform a sex act at gunpoint. The other woman was waiting for the escort in the lobby. The article doesn’t say but she was more than likely the driver. She goes up to the apartment to get the escort and Joyner allegedly forced her to perform a sex act as well.

Joyner is, or was, supposedly a founding member of a talent firm that lets people “get directly in touch with established industry experts and celebrity talent.” He sounds like one of those guys that lures women by saying that he’s a talent agent.

This is your user base backpage.

AGs Call for End of Craigslist Adult Services:

Attorneys general target Craigslist:

Missouri AG Chris Koster joins other attorneys general asking Craigslist to remove adult ads:

Ohio AG: Craigslist should drop adult services:

Tennessee AG joins in call on Craigslist to eliminate adult services section:

AGs demand Craigslist drop adult services section:

Gansler among 17 state AGs calling for Craigslist to drop adult services:

Kansas AG Asks Craigslist To Remove Adult Ads:

In case you couldn’t tell this is big news.

18 U.S. State Attorneys General have called for craigslist to shut down the adult services section. Among those are Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Martha Coakley of Massachusetts, Chris Koster of Missouri, Richard Cordray of Ohio, Bob Cooper of Tennessee, Dustin McDaniel of Arkansas, Douglas F. Gansler of Maryland, and Steve Six of Kansas. Not mentioned are the AGs from Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia.

Of course craigslist was quick to pay lip service to the AGs…

Craigslist supports states’ efforts to stop illegal exploitation, spokeswoman Susan MacTavish Best said in a statement that did not indicate whether the website plans to get rid of its adult services section.

Of course they have no intention of getting rid of adult services. Craigslist has a history of flying in the face of common decency.

While this is a big piece of news there’s something missing. It’s easy for these attorneys general to call for craigslist to shut down adult services. There’s only one attorney general who if he put his name behind this movement would have a huge impact. I am of course referring to former governor, former mayor of Oakland, current gubernatorial candidate and current attorney general of California…

Jerry Brown

Attorney General Brown, we may be politically opposed in some of our views but for a man who cares about the environment and opposes the death penalty I would imagine that you would be opposed to the trafficking of women and children that is being facilitated by craigslist.

Craigslist is headquartered in your home state. In my opinion craigslist’s shameful record when it comes to prostitution, child prostitution and human trafficking is a black eye for the Golden State. If I can’t appeal to your heart I will appeal to your aspirations. How much of a huge political coup would it be in your current gubernatorial race if you got the biggest facilitator of human trafficking in the country to get that section of the website shut down?

Mr. Brown, I beg of you to add your name to that of the other state attorney’s general in asking craigslist to shut down the adult services section. Maybe they will listen to you.

Don’t forget, while craigslist is dragging its feet Geebo.com has been human trafficking free since its inception.

Craigslist robberies bring 3 arrests:

I originally posted about the Stafford, Virginia craigslist robberies here. Basically the suspects used the promise of high end goods like iPhones at cheap prices to lure their victims.

Police have arrested 3 suspects in those robberies and they are Rashad Jamar Lightfoot, 19, Jarren Arees Fields, 20, and Adrian Marquelle Clark, 20.

Remember, as the old saying goes if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

Human Trafficking Victim Speaks Out:

This has become an important issue to me so I’m posting this at all four of my sites.

I am sure you have noticed that I haven’t posted in the past two days. On Thursday, I drove to Richmond, Virginia, and attended a screening of the film Call + Response. The screening was organized by the Richmond Justice Initiative and the International Justice Mission and held at Richmond’s Byrd Theatre. In attendance with me was Greg Collier the CEO of Geebo.com. The Secretary of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Janet Polarek, was also in the audience.

Before the film began, Ms. Polarek spoke out on the issue of human slavery and human trafficking. She stated that this is not a Republican or Democrat issue, but an issue we all need to be concerned about. Free craigscrimelist t-shirts were also given to the audience prior to the film’s commencement.

It was funny that as Greg and myself talked to people both before and after the movie, that they were completely unaware that craigslist and backpage were major sources of human trafficking in this country. For those who have never seen these sections i believe it will be an eye opener.

The movie itself was spectacular. The film was about a musician who wanted to bring other musicians together to raise awareness to the slavery still going on in the world today. It included music performances and interviews with politicians, journalists and activists.

Unfortunately, I was not moved by the film. It is likely because I have been writing about similar horrors for the past ten years. However, I am sure that most “normal” people would be my moved by the film’s message.

Following the movie, a Q&A session was held at a nearby restaurant. One thing that really stood out for me was a woman who stood and addressed the crowd. By looking at her you would have thought that she was a regular person that you would meet at an office or at the store. Her story, however, was anything but regular as she shared how she was enslaved in this very country as a prostitute.

After hearing her story about how many times she was nearly killed and had her freedom taken from her under the threat of extreme violence, I approached her, introduced myself with my real name and told her about craigscrimelist. I explained to her how I am using the site to call on sites like craigslist and backpage to end their facilitation of human trafficking and working with Geebo to show that it can be done. When I finished she did the most amazing thing. She thanked me. For the first time, in a really long time, I felt like what I was doing was helping.

This exchange tied in with a remark the movie’s producer, Justin Dillon, said in the movie. “If you want to help, find what you’re good at it and use it to bring awareness to the problem.” That is what I am doing. I hope I can call on you to find what you are good at and use to bring awareness too.

Online ads bait in two attacks:

In Stafford, Virginia two unsuccessful robbery attempts took place where the victims were lured with high end electronics posted for sale on craigslist.

In one instance the victims thought they were going to buy a Playstation 3. They were asked to meet at the courthouse and once they got there they received an e-mail asking them to go to another location. When they got to the other location one of the suspects allegedly tried to hit the man with a bottle.

In a separate incident the victim was allegedly lured with the promise of a cheap iPhone. That man was punched in the head however he and his girlfriend were able to run to the Sheriff’s office.

Police believe both acts were committed by the same suspects.

Two lessons here. The first is if you’re asked to go to another location you’re more than likely being set up. The second is if a deal sounds too good to be true it usually is.

Craigslist’s anonymity and unmonitored ads continue to claim more victims.
