I received the following e-mail from reader Krysta who encountered the old tutor scam…

This guy’s emails were extremely fishy with some odd details. I looked up reports on tutor scams on craigslist and found them very similar to the ones already reported. Then I asked myself what is a UN peacekeeper doing in Eastern Oregon? Here is the scam:

“I am pleased with whatever arrangement you could have made now concerning the hours to be having him the tutorial. Is name is Mike and he speaks danish and alil bit english language but not fluently.Okay according to the distances i think i will inform the nanny about it and she can be bringing him to you for the lesson wherever you have been choosing to be comfortable for you ,and this will bring him closer to your family and emulate a good morales from them.I would like to you get prepared starting with him by the middle of the month and i think that will be sometimes next two week. But as a teen tutor you should realize a better time table and housr to be taking kids and will be welcome with me.Nevermind,i will be making a payment of a month for this calaculated three hours every week,i guess it would be a cost fee of $720 by my own calaculation here and would like to make this payment out to you in a check, such that i will not finish with the money cos we have just been paid our royalties.i worked under the united nation as a peace keeping force. while i have lil time to visit home this time around while mike has been staying with his grandma before i finally take him to a nanny.Furthermore,i may required you not to recommend Fridays though, because all children have the concept of “Its friday, no more school!” and tend to have a hard time concentrating on fridays. And i would want you to give me a weekly reports and send me copies of your lesson plans for each lesson before or after the time of the lesson through the nanny.Nevertheless, I have also attached a picture of my son Mike with the nanny so that you will know how she and mike looks when you set to meet.I wish i have make myself cleared to you now and hoping you will take up this offer , Because i have made contacts with my son concerning the arrangement of the tutoring which he told me is ok by him because i always want the best for my son in life.i will be looking forward to hearing from you again.i would await the your information, so i can proceed on the payment asap.

kindest regard,
Mike Snr.”

I guess Eastern Oregon has a problem with Somali pirates or something. ‘Is name is Mike’? Wow. This guy wasn’t even trying.

Good morales? Pedro Morales? The first triple crown WWF title holder?

I’m curious to know if he actually included a picture of Mike Jnr. and what the picture looked like.

I guess he was waiting for the response before setting up his proposed victim for the fake check scam. Luckily Krysta was smart enough to do her research.

Craigslist rapist sentenced to 25 years in prison:

The holiday has put me behind on my postings. This actually happened last week but I’m just getting to it now.

Anyway, one of the craigslist rapists has been sentenced to 25-years behind bars. That would be 53-year-old Ronald Marcus Leistiko of Tigard, Oregon. If you’ll recall Leistiko raped several women, mostly escorts, that he met through their craigslist ads. He also drugged up a minor to rape her as well.

I can live with 25 years but a serial rapist like this needs to be behind bars permanently at least.

Two Arrested In Tigard Craigslist Attack:

Remember the beating and robbery that happened in Tigard, Oregon after the victim posted a craigslist ad? The suspects have been caught.

Police arrested Matthew Johansen and Jamie Sweany. Both were arrested on outstanding warrants.

They kind of do look like their police sketches don’t they? What’s up with the no eyebrows anyway?

It’s still unknown what the victim was selling in his craigslist ad.

Free Stuff Ad Leads Thieves To Home:

A woman’s ad on the Portland craigslist led to her home being ransacked. She was giving some stuff away for free but she put something on her ad that just invited the thieves.

“I did put in the ad: ‘Knock on the door and if I’m there, I’ll let you see the rest of the stuff,’

So when she wasn’t there a couple of thieves help themselves to the items in her backyard after busting down the fence.

Who would have thought that criminals look at craigslist?

Tigard man convicted of Craigslist rapes:

Ronald Marcus Leistiko of Tigard, Oregon was convicted yesterday for raping two craigslist escorts one of which was only 15-years-old. He also supplied alcohol and cocaine to the 15-year-old.

He claimed at trial that he didn’t remember the 25-year-old escort who he tackled and raped after she only agreed to a striptease.

He was acquitted of raping an 18-year-old who placed a personal ad that said she was lonely and wanted to meet men.

Leistiko almost seemingly bragged about all the sex he had through craigslist. I wonder how many of those alleged conquests were victims who didn’t come forward.

He’s looking at 26 years.

Craigslist ads at center stage in Tigard rape trial:

The first craigslist rapist I ever posted about on this site was Ronald Marcus Leistiko. He would respond to ads including escort ads and rape the women who came to his house in Tigard, Oregon. One of his victims was a 14-year-old girl.

His trial for multiple counts of rape among other charges started this week.

Not surprisingly Leistiko’s slimy lawyer is trying to blame the victims. You know, the ones that were raped.

“Craigslist has taken the world’s oldest profession into the Internet age,” defense attorney Timothy Bowman told jurors Wednesday in his opening statement. “You will hear some startling evidence about the nature of advertising on Craigslist.”

Bowman said as many as 2,000 ads a day are posted by women looking for men, just on the Portland section of Craigslist.

“The competition is fierce and the enticements are alluring,” he said. “And the promises are, well, for full satisfaction and that sort of thing.”

The defense is that the sex was consensual, in the context of prostitutes being paid for their services.

While I’m constantly posting some of the exact same things that that the slimy lawyer said I would never use them as excuses for rape. I don’t think the prostitutes were paid to be beaten, strangled, and raped.

Leistiko is nothing but a serial predator who purposely preyed upon these women because I’m sure in his mind he figured no one would care about them or take them seriously. I hope the jury in Oregon proves me wrong.

Sketches Of Craigslist Attackers Released:

Police in Tigard, Oregon have released sketches of the suspects wanted in the beating and robbery of a man who was selling something on craigslist.

Yep…there they are…in all their generic glory.

At least there’s a physical description…

The male robber is described as white, 6 feet 4 inches to 6 feet 5 inches tall and 200 to 240 pounds with an athletic build. The man was about 30 years old and has a tribal-type tattoo on his forearm.

The woman involved is described as white, about 25 to 30 years old, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall and 150 to 160 pounds. She had shoulder-length, dirty blond hair.

Ok, so the description doesn’t help much either. That describes just about every early 30’s couple I know.

Anyway if you recognize Mr. and Mrs. Everybody please call the number listed in the article.

But I think I’ve discovered the male suspect’s identity…

Craigslist ad leads to beating, robbery:

I’m not familiar with Tigard, Oregon so I don’t know if these stories are reflective of the community. All I know is it seems like Tigard shows up way too often in these stories.

A man in Tigrad who had a mystery ad on craigslist received a visit the other night from a couple who seemed to be interested in whatever he had to sell. Except they weren’t really.

They ended up pistol whipping the man, tying him up, and stealing his truck.

Seriously people, stop selling stuff from out of your house on craigslist.

Thanks to Greg for the tip.

Wife cops to Craigslist scam; husband cleared of charges:

Do you remember the story about the Oregon man who had his house ransacked because someone posted a fake ad on craigslist saying that he was giving away all his stuff? Well the perpetrator has been sentenced.

28-year-old Amber Herbert had pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree burglary and committing a computer crime. For her plea she received a hefty sentence of only 10 days on jail, 18 months probation, and a $1246 fine. The victim is out of thousands of dollars from all of the dumbasses pillaging his house and she only gets 10 days. That’s a joke.

Her husband was also implicated in the crime but Herbert claims that he husband had nothing to do with it and the charges against Brandon Herbert were dropped.

House-for-rent scams turning up online:

This is just your typical article about the housing scams on craigslist and how one family almost fell for it in Beaverton, Oregon.

However the seller of the house did a pretty ingenious thing to prevent people from being scammed.

After taking a second look at the house in person, Sami noticed the house’s real owner had posted a sign out front reading, “private property: if you have seen this home on craigslist you are being scammed.”

Good thinking on the owner’s part. People don’t get scammed and he doesn’t have to break it to people that they have been scammed.

Tigard police crack down on online prostitution:

In Tigard, Oregon 22-year-old Shanelle Nichole Carlson goes on trial on September, 16th. Not only is she charged with being a craogslist hooker, she’s also charged with forcing a 15-year-old girl to work with her.

She’s also charged with using a child in a sexual display for taking a sexually explicit pic of the 15-year-old to use on their craigslist ad.

But I’m sure some people won’t see a victim in this case. Then again it must be hard to see with all that sand around your head.

Family Finds Friend Hurt, Possibly Beaten:
A Hillsboro, Oregon woman was found in her friend’s yard half naked and disoriented Thanksgiving night. The victim allegedly went on a date that night with a man she met on craigslist.

Roberts called 911. Later at the hospital, she said her friend briefly talked about a man in a black leather jacket with fuzzy facial hair.

“She kept calling him the boogie man and was crying and kept asking not to be hurt,” Roberts said.

The woman did have a date set up Thursday night with a man she met on Craigslist. Roberts said she gave the man directions over the phone and she knew they planned to go out for dinner.

That was the first time they’d ever met. Roberts said giving out her address and phone number was a mistake.

I’m not blaming the victim but the internet has been around for how long now? You’d think by now that people would take better precautions when meeting people in the real world.
