Local woman becomes victim after posting Craigslist ad:

This one is really weird. A woman in Charlotte, NC placed an ad on craigslist to rent her house. This one doesn’t go where you think it might. She wasn’t targeted by Nigerians. Instead a woman showed up at her house claiming she had sent the woman $500 for a puppy. It seems that someone used the woman’s address that they got from the craigslist ad in the puppy scam.

Now for those of you in the Charlotte area WCNC has taken this scam straight to the CEO of craigslist and they’ll have his answer tomorrow night during the 6pm broadcast.

There’s also going to be someone else on that broadcast…

Tuesday night on NewsChannel 36 at 6, hear from a local man who says this type of thing happens all too often. So much so, he’s started his own website devoted to Craiglist related crime.

I really can’t wait to see that guy.

Deputies arrest woman for prostitution:

31-year-old Leticia Marie Cadena was arrested in Fayetteville, NC for being a traveling craigslit hooker. Same old story there but here’s proof that everyone on the erotic services section knows what’s really going on.

Since her release, Cadena made a posting on Craigslist to warn others in her trade to avoid coming to Fayetteville, McCastle said.

But I’m sure everything else in there is legal.

Authorities charge 7 women for soliciting sex on Craigslist:

Police in Lenoir County, NC were recently tipped off to craigslist prostitution in their area. They did what any responsible police department would do, they set up a craigslist hooker sting.

In the process of the sting they arrested 7 hookers, a john and a driver for those of you keeping score at home.

The reporter who wrote the article actually got a response from craigslist’s mouthpiece but it wasn’t much of a response.

“Misuse of craigslist for illegal purposes is unacceptable. The incidence of crime on craigslist is actually very low, considering the tens of millions of ads that are posted each month, and together with craigslist users and law enforcement we are working continually to eliminate it.

Thanks,

Susan Mactavish Best

And again I have to say that if they really wanted to eliminate crime on craigslist they would remove the erotic services section completely so basically craigslist is just paying lip service to the media.

Massage parlor owner charged:

What do you know. The victimless crime rears it’s ugly head in my own backyard. Monroe, NC is right down Hwy 74 from my stomping grounds of Charlotte.

In Monroe 40-year-old Son Jarkowsky was arrested for operating Island Spa which of course advertised on craigslist. Since you’re reading about it here it’s safe to assume that it wasn’t really a spa if you know what I mean. And in case you don’t…

Customers found advertisements for Island Spa on Craig’s List, police said. Male patrons would come from hundreds of miles away, police said, while women seeking spa treatments were largely ignored by employees and never offered any services – legitimate or otherwise.

The women who worked there may have been illegally trafficked into the US. They couldn’t even speak each other’s languages. But I guess they couldn’t possibly be considered victims could they?

Thanks to my wife Jade for the tip.
