Top narcotics officers join N.Y. war vs. craigslist drug ads:

Special New York City narcotics prosecutor Bridget Brennan is trying to get prosecutors across the country to join her in getting craigslist to eliminate the ads that are for selling illegal drugs. This would be a move not unlike the Attorneys General who ganged up on craigslist to try and get them to limit the erotic services postings.

Ms. Brennan wrote a letter to craigslist almost two weeks ago and not surprisingly has received no response.

Drug dealers doing roaring trade on craigslist, say city investigators:

New York City’s special narcotics prosecutor Bridget Brennan wants craigslist to crackdown on drug sales like it’s allegedly doing with prostitution.

“I would like members of my staff who have an expertise in prosecuting Internet drug sales to meet with you and explore ways to curb drug dealing on your Web site,” her letter says.

Shockingly craigslist did not comment. If they did I’m sure it would be something like ‘users policing the site flag illegal ads blah blah blah’…

NY judge sends ex-Pa. radio host to prison:

I originally posted about Bruce Bond here. He’s the former Pennsylvania radio host who was busted in New York for helping his Nigerian overlords bilk companies and people out of $4.3M.

So what kind of message do you think the New York courts send to a scumbag like this? Not much of one as he was only sentenced to 2 1/3-7 years in prison. Probably more like the 2 1/3 part.

Bond’s attorney is already asking for early release.

I always thought the guilty were supposed to be punished.

Ex-Pa. radio host pleads guilty in NYC:

Former radio host Bruce Bond pleaded guilty yesterday to second-degree grand larceny, identity theft and possession of forgery devices. Bond was part of an elaborate fake check scam that would prey upon people looking for jobs they could do at home on craigslist. He would send them the bogus checks and have the victims cash them, have them keep ‘10%’ then wire the rest to his buddies in Nigeria.

It’s alleged he bilked people and companies out of $4.3M.

Hopefully he’ll be sitting in cell #419.

Victim sues Craigslist, says shooter got gun through site:

50-year-old Calvin Gibson of New York was shot by local resident lunatic, Jesus Ortiz, back in July. Luckily Mr. Gibson survived even though he was shot six times.

Ortiz, who suffers from schizophrenia, confessed to police that he purchased the gun on craigslist. I’m going to assume that this was not what you would call a ‘legal’ purchase.

So now Mr. Gibson is suing craigslist for $10 Million.

“Defendant owed a duty to the public at large to monitor and supervise what may be bought and sold and by whom, with respect to its Internet ads,” attorney Paul Dalnoky wrote in the lawsuit filed in Manhattan Federal Court.

Wait a minute. According to craigslist their users flag ads for illegal sales and that it’s a bastion of users with good moral character. It was hard to type that without busting out into fits of laughter.

craigslist had their usual response…

Craiglist did not respond to a request for comment.

Quelle surprise.

Craigslist pimp from Queens busted:

Carlton “Privilege” Simons, 25, of Queens, and Shernett “Divine” Reevey, 24, of Charlotte, N.C., were convicted late Friday of luring the teenage student from her home with promises of money and introductions to rap celebrities.

Once in New York, however, the 18-year-old woman was physically and verbally abused, forced to pose for provocative photographs later posted to Craigslist and to prostitute herself at hotels and at a “track,” or a location frequented by sex workers and their customers from Lexington to Park Avenue on 48th Street.

Still think prostitution is a victimless crime?
