Clayton man caught in FBI sex sting gets 10 years:

29-year-old Louis Edward Cooke, formerly of Clayton, Missouri, was sentenced to 10 years in the federal pen for soliciting sex from underage girls on the Village Voice Media owned backpage.com.

Cooke, responded to a backpage ad that advertised “young and irresistable” sisters ages 13 and 15. Cooke said he would only take the younger girl if there was a discount involved. If that doesn’t make you want to vomit with rage you’re inhuman.

Well you can actually save your vomit because when Cooke went to the house in Kirkwood, MO to see the girls he was instead greeted by the Kirkwood police and the FBI. That’s right kids. The girls, thankfully, didn’t actually exist.

But wait, there’s more. Not only did Cooke claim, even through his trial, that he was at the girl’s house to jump a car battery but after he was arrested he lived with his girlfriend. Seriously? Some woman took him in after he was arrested for trying to buy a girl off the internet? It takes all kinds I guess.

This brings up another point though. Much like craigslist, backpage is obviously not doing jack shit to protect children on its website since the feds and police were able to post this ad without any kind of rejection from backpage.

It seems the steps that backpage is taking to clamp down on illegal activity are smaller than baby steps.

Ali Cubba

Yuri Ives met his suspected teenage killer through a Craigslist personal ad:

Don’t let the baby boy looks fool you. According to police in Kansas City, Missouri 17-year-old Ali Cubba is a stone cold killer. Cubba has been arrested for the brutal stabbing and shooting murder of local realtor and community activist Yuri Ives, 48.

It seems that craigslist is living up to its cesspool of crime moniker as Cubba responded to a craigslist personal ad placed by Ives with the intention of robbing him. The robbery went bad and Cubba allegedly stabbed Ives and shot him with his own gun.

Also arrested was 18-year-old Zachary Kimbrell who was the driver in the botched robbery attempt.

Police found Ives’ gun in Cubba’s bedroom and that calls were made from Ives’ cell phone to Cubba.

Both Cubba and Kimbrell have been charged with second degree murder.

Again when you have a website that allows people to communicate with almost total anonymity it’s going to attract criminals from all over the spectrum from con artists to killers.

Several Arrests in Downtown Springfield Prostitution Ring:

Police in Springfield, Missouri busted an elaborate prostitution ring recently and I wanted to point out this quote from the article…

An undercover officer confronted and interviewed one of the women involved. She told police a man and woman who rent the rooms would arrange the meetings with men through a website called backpage.com.

What does that sound like to you? To me that sounds a whole hell of a lot like human trafficking.

Yet backpage says that they’re doing all they can to prevent trafficking on their sites. I guess by doing everything they can they mean raising the adult ad rates.

Thanks to Phyllis for the tip.

No trafficking ever on Geebo.com.

AGs Call for End of Craigslist Adult Services:

Attorneys general target Craigslist:

Missouri AG Chris Koster joins other attorneys general asking Craigslist to remove adult ads:

Ohio AG: Craigslist should drop adult services:

Tennessee AG joins in call on Craigslist to eliminate adult services section:

AGs demand Craigslist drop adult services section:

Gansler among 17 state AGs calling for Craigslist to drop adult services:

Kansas AG Asks Craigslist To Remove Adult Ads:

In case you couldn’t tell this is big news.

18 U.S. State Attorneys General have called for craigslist to shut down the adult services section. Among those are Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Martha Coakley of Massachusetts, Chris Koster of Missouri, Richard Cordray of Ohio, Bob Cooper of Tennessee, Dustin McDaniel of Arkansas, Douglas F. Gansler of Maryland, and Steve Six of Kansas. Not mentioned are the AGs from Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia.

Of course craigslist was quick to pay lip service to the AGs…

Craigslist supports states’ efforts to stop illegal exploitation, spokeswoman Susan MacTavish Best said in a statement that did not indicate whether the website plans to get rid of its adult services section.

Of course they have no intention of getting rid of adult services. Craigslist has a history of flying in the face of common decency.

While this is a big piece of news there’s something missing. It’s easy for these attorneys general to call for craigslist to shut down adult services. There’s only one attorney general who if he put his name behind this movement would have a huge impact. I am of course referring to former governor, former mayor of Oakland, current gubernatorial candidate and current attorney general of California…

Jerry Brown

Attorney General Brown, we may be politically opposed in some of our views but for a man who cares about the environment and opposes the death penalty I would imagine that you would be opposed to the trafficking of women and children that is being facilitated by craigslist.

Craigslist is headquartered in your home state. In my opinion craigslist’s shameful record when it comes to prostitution, child prostitution and human trafficking is a black eye for the Golden State. If I can’t appeal to your heart I will appeal to your aspirations. How much of a huge political coup would it be in your current gubernatorial race if you got the biggest facilitator of human trafficking in the country to get that section of the website shut down?

Mr. Brown, I beg of you to add your name to that of the other state attorney’s general in asking craigslist to shut down the adult services section. Maybe they will listen to you.

Don’t forget, while craigslist is dragging its feet Geebo.com has been human trafficking free since its inception.
