Mass. craigslist rapist convicted

When it comes to violent criminals there is one list that’s longer than that of the ‘craigslist killers’. That would be craigslist rapists.

In 2009 Reinaldo Prado of Framingham, Mass. was arrested for raping and robbing prostitutes that advertised their services on craigslist. His crimes took place three months before anyone even knew who Philip Markoff was.

When arrested he was in possession of stolen cell phones, knives and zip ties. He raped and robbed these women in a matter of days.

Today he was convicted of rape and robbery and will be sentenced in October.

With the removal of the adult/erotic services section from craigslist the rapes that have occurred through their site have not ceased. Now they just occur through the casual encounters and personals sections.

As I’ve said many times before craigslist is far from having cleaned up its act.

UPDATE 10/13/11: Prado only got 9-12 years. Another joke sentence for a serial sexual predator.

Supposed amateur filmmaker charged with craigslist rape of deaf woman

EMT accused of raping deaf woman who responded to Craigslist ad:

Man charged with raping deaf woman in Northborough:

37-year-old Mark David Tritto III of Boston has been charged with raping a deaf woman that he met through craigslist.

Trittto is an EMT who police say placed an ad on craigslist claiming to be a documentary filmmaker looking for people to share their secrets. The ad was responded to by a 24-year-old deaf woman who says that after meeting Tritto at a motel in Northborough, Mass. was raped by him.

Again, I’m not blaming the victim here, only Tritto is to blame if the charges are true. However you need to use some common sense people. If I saw an ad for a ‘filmmaker’ on craigslist I would automatically assume it was porn or some kind of predator scam.

Dorchester man who allegedly forced teen into prostitution held without bail:

In Massachusetts police say that Norman s. Barnes of Dorchester held a 15-year-old girl captive for 10 days and forced her to have sex with men. At one point the girl was allegedly forced to have sex with 8 men in one night.

Barnes allegedly approached the girl after she got out of school and convinced her to go with him. He’s also accused of having sex (child rape) with the girl multiple times.

Now who wants to take a guess on how this dirtbag found johns? That’s right, it was on the Village Voice Media owned backpage.com. I wonder how Barnes was able to get around backapge’s massive safety measures designed to keep children from being trafficked on their site? Oh that’s right, no matter how much they claim it, backpage doesn’t have any real safety measures.

In case you couldn’t tell this is big news.

18 U.S. State Attorneys General have called for craigslist to shut down the adult services section. Among those are Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Martha Coakley of Massachusetts, Chris Koster of Missouri, Richard Cordray of Ohio, Bob Cooper of Tennessee, Dustin McDaniel of Arkansas, Douglas F. Gansler of Maryland, and Steve Six of Kansas. Not mentioned are the AGs from Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia.

Of course craigslist was quick to pay lip service to the AGs…

Craigslist supports states’ efforts to stop illegal exploitation, spokeswoman Susan MacTavish Best said in a statement that did not indicate whether the website plans to get rid of its adult services section.

Of course they have no intention of getting rid of adult services. Craigslist has a history of flying in the face of common decency.

While this is a big piece of news there’s something missing. It’s easy for these attorneys general to call for craigslist to shut down adult services. There’s only one attorney general who if he put his name behind this movement would have a huge impact. I am of course referring to former governor, former mayor of Oakland, current gubernatorial candidate and current attorney general of California…

Attorney General Brown, we may be politically opposed in some of our views but for a man who cares about the environment and opposes the death penalty I would imagine that you would be opposed to the trafficking of women and children that is being facilitated by craigslist.

Craigslist is headquartered in your home state. In my opinion craigslist’s shameful record when it comes to prostitution, child prostitution and human trafficking is a black eye for the Golden State. If I can’t appeal to your heart I will appeal to your aspirations. How much of a huge political coup would it be in your current gubernatorial race if you got the biggest facilitator of human trafficking in the country to get that section of the website shut down?

Mr. Brown, I beg of you to add your name to that of the other state attorney’s general in asking craigslist to shut down the adult services section. Maybe they will listen to you.

Martha Coakley calls for crackdown on Craigslist:

Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley has joined with other state Attorneys General in calling for craigslist to shut down the adult services section. You would think I would be happy about that and I am sort of but I think Coakley is just doing this for political gain.

While Philip Markoff’s suicide is still fresh in the news, especially in Boston, Ms. Coakley has gone on the offense against craigslist.

“Craigslist . . . continues to facilitate everyday prostitution and even human trafficking of men, women and children,” Coakley told the Herald. “Craigslist makes a significant profit from these postings and has refused to monitor the advertisements posted in this section. In the interest of public safety, Craigslist should immediately take down the adult services section of their Web site.”

Except previously Ms. Coakley had let craigslist alone while other state Attorneys General went after them. I think Ms. Coakley is using craigslist as a stepping stone to the US Senate since she previously lost a Senate election to fill the seat of the late Ted Kennedy.

In my opinion the only politician that actually cares about the human trafficking on craigslist is U.S. Representative Jackie Speier. She represents the district in California that contains San Francisco where not only is craigslist insanely popular but where prostitution is almost encouraged. She’s actually going against the grain of most of her voters.

Politicians aside craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster had his usual crap to spew about shutting down adult services…

“To do so would be a giant step backward for everyone concerned,” Buckmaster said in an e-mail exchange. “Not to mention the mayhem that would ensue from declassifying these ads back into our other categories, and off to other sites that could care less about best practices, or cooperating with law enforcement.”

What categories would the ads go to, Free Puppies? And as for cooperating with law enforcement most law enforcement claim that is a joke. As far as best practices go why isn’t shutting down the adult services section a best practice. That’s because it wouldn’t be a best practice for craigslist because they would be out of $30 Million.

Like I need to say it? Geebo.com never had an adult services section and never will.

3 more women come forward in Brockton craigslist robberies

Brockton police: fifth woman has come forward in Craigslist case:

I originally posted about Luther Mark Henderson here. He’s the man from Brockton, Mass. accused of robbing two craigslist escorts at gunpoint. Now three more women have come forward saying the same thing had happened to them.

The sad part is that the police can’t confirm yet if the latest 3 were arrested by Henderson yet. Which means there could be more women who have had ads placed on craigslist getting possibly robbed at gunpoint by other men. As I mentioned before a lot of prostitutes don’t even get to keep the money they make as it’s taken by their pimps or traffickers.

Yet craigslist still insists that the adult services section causes no harm.

Mass. man arrested for robbing craigslist escorts

Brockton man accused of making Craigslist escorts strip naked at gunpoint before robbing them:

Police in Brockton, Mass. have arrested 35-year-old Luther Mark Henderson for allegedly robbing escorts that advertised on craigslist. He’s accused of forcing them to strip down and robbing them at gunpoint.

The insular Boston media likens Henderson’s MO to that of the recently deceased Philip Markoff. What they fail to mention is that Markoff did not invent robbing craigslist escorts. This has been going on at least as long as I’ve been doing this blog.

The worst part is that these women that are forced to work on craigslist usually do not even have money of their own. They usually have to give all their money to their pimps or traffickers. I wonder how many women and girls have been beaten or worse by their pimps after they’ve been robbed.

3 robbed in Milton after responding to Craigslist ad:

3 men from Rhode Island were robbed at gunpoint after responding to a craigslist ad from Milton, Mass. for a TV. The address they were sent to was a vacant apartment. One of the victims went inside alone where he was held at gun point by two men. The suspects then went and got the other two victims out of the car. All the victims were robbed of their cash and belongings and one was even beaten. The two suspects are still at large.

Considering one of the victims went into the apartment by himself leads me to believe that he thought doing business on craigslist is a safe experience when obviously it isn’t. As I’ve said before craigslist is the online hive of scum and villainy and you’d be surprised how many people are unaware of this.
