Guy gets 10 years for craigslist child solicitation

Man who solicited young girl on Craigslist sentenced:

This one somehow escaped my notice but 28-year-old Johnson Colby Sheffield of Austin, Texas was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for soliciting underage girls on the Las Vegas craigslist.

Sheffield, who is a former Nevada resident, posted an ad on craigslist looking for sex with underage girls. On his ad was a picture of his face and another one of his junk. Of course one of the respondents to his ad was the Henderson, Nevada police. Investigators found evidence on his cell phone that Sheffield had solicited other girls as well.

I’m almost positive that Sheffield’s ad was on the casual encounters section which once again shows that craigslist obviously needs to moderate this section and not rely on the failed community policing.

Fire Captain sentenced for craigslist child solicitation

Martin Vohwinkel

Speaking of the casual encounters section, because you know we were, 56-year-old Martin Vohwinkel of Clark County, Nevada was sentenced to 10 years in prison. I originally posted about Vohwinkel here and here.

He was a Clark County fire captain who posted an and on the casual encounters section of craigslist where he was looking for sex with an underage girl. In the ad he said the younger the better. Luckily the 14-year-old girl that responded to his ad was the Henderson, Nevada police.

Vohwinkel pleaded guilty and part of the plea deal was that he could be sentenced up to 10 years. I’m glad to see that one of these creeps finally get the max even though the sentence is too light for me.

Once again though this shows that casual encounters needs to be monitored and that community policing on craigslist is just a myth.

Geebo.com never had a casual encounters section and even closed down their personals to make sure this wouldn’t happen on their site.

Fire Captain Pleads Guilty In Sex Case:

I originally posted about 55-year-old Martin Vohwinkel here. He’s the fire captain from Henderson, Nevada who was busted for trying to set up a sex meeting with a 14-year-old girl on craigslist’s casual encounters section. The 14-year-old girl turned out to be the Henderson police.

He’s pleaded guilty to the charges against him and will be sentenced on December 17th. He’s only looking at 10 years which as usual is a joke. I doubt this was his first casual encounters rodeo.

Occasionally you’ll see me use the phrase “Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?” which loosely translated is Latin for “Who watches the watchmen?” or “Who guards the guardsmen?” if you want to get literal. This is one of those instances.

Henderson, Nevada police officer Michael Stevens, 34, has been arrested on charged craigslist prostitution after his alleged prostitute of choice dimed him out.

Las Vegas police arrested Jill Robbearts on prostitution charges which caused her to tell them that Stevens was using her services. Robbearts was able to assist LVPD with setting up a sting where Stevens was arrested. The AP says that Stevens tried saying that he was working vice but the local Nevada articles says that he admitted what he was doing was wrong. Stevens is said to have met Robbearts on craigslist.

How can we doing anything to combat human trafficking when it is being supported by allegedly crooked cops. And yes I do realize that cops like Stevens are in the vast majority but one bad apple like Stevens can also tarnish the reputation of entire departments.
