I don’t trust Craigslist because there is no oversight – so many people have been killed or hurt or ripped off responding to CL postings. When you call the newspaper to place an ad, they ask questions before accepting your ad, which makes me feel like it’s a much safer way to conduct business. Of course, CL is free – but you get what you pay for – and there appears to be no one looking out for the integrity of the site. Thanks for all you do to inform the public of Craigslist crime.

It only took us a day this time to get a winning comment. It was the only comment we got but it’s a great comment. This week’s winning comment is from Morse_the_horse…

I was a volunteer for a number of years helping people with questions and problems on craigslist. I finally just gave up. CL had no apparent interest in getting rid of the real spammers and scammers but let “community moderation” get rid of the small troublemaking advertiser. They also did nothing about those harassing the helpers.

CL is a profit-making company but I volunteered because I liked their concept of local advertising. Also as someone who bought and sold a few items at no cost, I felt I owed something back for that opportunity. However, not getting rid of the real spammers and the obvious non-locals and not fixing their rules and FAQs to make it clear to the small poster what was acceptable or not and not even communicating to the helpers what was their official interpretations of their rules just got to be too much.

They seem to be smoking too many of those “funny little cigarettes” for “medical” purposes to really care. I gave up and don’t help nor use it any more.

So there it is from someone who volunteered their own time and effort in order to help craigslist but it seems that craigslist didn’t really want the help.

After receiving some comments from spammers and astroturfers we did have a winning comment from a real person and again it was a great comment. This time from a commenter named grissey bear…

As a property owner/manager, I thoroughly screen prospective residents by doing credit, court, and police background checks. To save everyone time and trouble I USED to state this in my ad. Well, CL readers don’t like the fact that I “screen” (which I am legally entitled to do) so they “flag” or delete my ad. I can only place a very generic ad and as a result get calls from the local penitentiary, and from misfits from sordid walks of life. I’m AMAZED at how many degenerates call…they must all be using Craigslist.

I am angry that CL ALLOWS these misfits to control their advertising. Their policy of “anyone can ‘flag’ an ad” just because they don’t like it allows misfits to control what could be a service to people in need of goods and services.

As I’ve pointed out before the flagging of ads is not the vaunted community policing that craigslist claims that it is. Instead it’s used by those who want to block the ads of legitimate business people.

As I child I was dragged state to state by an abusive father. The degenerates always found us. Everytime the authorities would start asking questions we moved on. When I turned 12, and got too old for his entertainment, he threw me out. I lived with one abuser after another before getting married at 15.
I wrote my college thesis on human trafficking, from the first person. It was one of the hardest thing I ever did besides testifying against my father. He spent a mere 15 years in prison for everything he did to dozens if not hundreds of children.

Today, I tell people why I HATE Craigslist. I hate it, because it gives these bastards a place to set up shop. It’s all too easy for them to practice their filth, without help from a mainstream webpage.

And it is still going on within craigslist’s pages in some of the unmoderated sections such as casual encounters.

I also am not a fan. There is not enough regulation or privacy with that site. I have purchased things before and had my money stolen. After what happened to Heather (I only knew her through her stepmother Kristie) and the “Cragslist Killer” I don’t understand why it is still operating.

It’s been almost 3 months since we gave away a free craigscrimelist t-shirt. It makes me wonder if people are thinking that crime on classifieds sites has gone away or is not that important. I couldn’t disagree more. Crime is still alive and well on craigslist and even more so on the Village Voice Media owned backpage. But I digress.

It seems almost disrespectful to call this week’s t-shirt commenter a winner. Her commenting name is Kristies2 and she is a relative of craigslist murder victim Heather Snively. Here is her comment.

Ever since my beloved step daughter was murdered by a woman she actually met through another woman on Craigslist, just the mention of that website makes my heart skip a beat. But I will go through that skipping countless times in my own life to try and save another. I have lost count of the number of times I’ve warned people about using this website. I always tell them it is a TOOL for criminals. Not just murderers looking to steal babies from young mothers, but for prostitution and countless other illegal activities. It’s just sad that the police seem to only be able to do anything if there is a loss of life. I’m with you guys in working to somehow get rid of Craigslist in any way possible. We NEED to spread the word. I’ve been working on it on Facebook but still there are people that think they might ok, or it can’t happen to them. (Of course, I remind them what happened to Heather at that point) I’m living proof that it CAN happen. Our family was like any other with our normal lives, but all that was changed when I received a horrifying phone call from Heather Snively’s father at 5am, telling me Heather had been murdered. It just CAN’T happen. That always happens to other people. But now I definitely tell people that you really never know. Your life can change in an instant. And if you have a CHOICE to a situation, so it. BE SAFE. NOT SORRY.

It doesn’t get any more real than that. Do you want someone you know to be the victim of a horrible crime like that?
