Queens Man Sentenced For Craigslist Pimping:

33-year-old Tyrone Waite of Jamaica, Queens was sentenced to up to seven years behind bars for being a craigslist pimp and lying to a grand jury. Not only was he a craigslist pimp but he was trying to pimp out a 13-year-old girl on craigslist. At the time of his arrest he also had naked pics of the 13-year-old on his laptop.

As a special bonus the D.A. pontificates on prostitution being referred to as a victimless crime.

“Prostitution is not a victimless crime but a terrifying and despicable offense against society practiced by callous people who enslave young women without hope and victimize them one day at a time”, district attorney Richard A. Brown said. “This guilty plea and sentencing allowed the young victim to avoid testifying at trial and hopefully will help her to recover from her ordeal.”

Craigslist.org a source of crimes:
It seems that other news outlets are picking up on how much crime goes on through craigslist. This is an article from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette that relates at least one story that I missed.

But sometimes, the questionable listings aren’t flagged — for instance, the one police say Brian Lee Nestor posted back in September.

According to an affidavit filed in his case in federal court, Mr. Nestor, 44, of Squirrel Hill, put a listing under Craigslist’s “Casual Encounters” section.

It read: “Anybody into family fun?” followed by, “bring your son and hang out with us.”

A Greensburg police officer who handles computer crimes for the jurisdiction found the ad on Sept. 9.

He responded to the posting, saying that “Family fun sounds great, reply with age, limits, a photo would be great.”

The police officer and Mr. Nestor corresponded through e-mail for several days. According to the affidavit, Mr. Nestor, who also solicited child pornography, became frustrated: “Look I’m tired of these endless e-mails. … I’m just looking to get with a boy discreetly.”

In one exchange, Mr. Nestor, who was previously investigated by the FBI but not charged for having thousands of images of child pornography on his computer, wrote that when they met, the two men would have to expose themselves to each other to ensure that neither was a cop.

He was arrested Sept. 14 and charged with coercion and enticement, as well as possession of child pornography. Mr. Nestor’s arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday.

So let’s add pedophilia and child molestation to the list of things that craigslist is helping to facilitate. craigslist’s mouthpiece Susan MacTavish Best had the usual to say…

…inappropriate ads…flagged by users…blah blah blah…

But I may be paraphrasing.

A lot of people think that newspapers, or old media if you will, have a vendetta against craigslist since they’ve taken a big chunk out of their newspapers revenue by not charging for classifieds. That may be true but doesn’t old media still have a responsibility to report the news? And this my friends is news that more people should be seeing.

The story was about an alleged Boulder, Colorado craigslist pimp who was also in possession of child porn by the name of Jeffrey Scott Bagnall.

Now I did all the polite things. I linked to the original article. I blockquoted all the quotes that I thought were germane to the point I was making. Added some content that was definitely my own. I never claimed ownership of the material. But no, some pencil pusher has to DMCA me. I removed the post from MCS only because I didn’t want to drag b5media into it. I even thought about reposting the article in full here but I decided that I’ll be the slightly bigger man.

What this tool doesn’t realize is that blogs and online media have a symbiotic relationship. Media provides bloggers with the news while bloggers provide more readers to the media websites by linking back to them. It seems that some standard media outlets still don’t get it.

I know one thing that isn’t covered under the DMCA. I can say Wayne Harrison is a tool all I want. That and the “Denver Channel” sucks ass. DMCA that, assclown.
