Liberalized prostitution laws make life more dangerous for women:

Usually after I post a story about a big prostitution bust I get a comment from a ‘hobbyist’, code word for a john, that says that everything will be great once prostitution is legalized. They seem to think that once prostitution is legal that no harm will come to the women, no children will be trafficked, streets will be paved with gold and everyone will have a rainbow farting unicorn.

In Canada that’s currently a serious debate, legalizing prostitution not the unicorns. It seems that there is a good possibility that prostitution could be legalized in the Great White North. In the article I linked to in the Calgary Herald by Licia Corbella in which she interviews a former sex worker who points out the hazards of legalizing prostitution…

Timea Nagy, a former prostitute and author of Walk With Me, A Memoir of a Sex Slave Worker, says legitimizing prostitution and driving it indoors has not, and will not, make the sex trade any safer and, in fact, will make things worse for vulnerable women and girls.

“If the laws are liberalized, the police will have no way to go into these places to rescue the victims of human trafficking,” she said Wednesday from Toronto, where she was forced to work as a sex slave after responding to an ad in her native Hungary to work as a waitress in Canada.

“Striking down these laws will hand the victims on a silver platter over to the human traffickers and that means pimps are going to become legitimate businessmen and more women and girls will be sold, trafficked and victimized,” she said.

There goes the myth of consenting adults. The other myth that is always touted is Amsterdam’s infamous red light district. For that Ms. Corbella interviewed University of British Columbia law professor Benjamin Perrin…

“In Amsterdam, in recent years, they had to shut down almost half of the red-light district because of the infiltration of organized crime and violent pimps who profit from the trade in women,” said Perrin.

When authorities studied who was being sold, it wasn’t Dutch women, “who were choosing prostitution over medicine or law as a career choice.”

“Three-quarters of the women were impoverished women and girls from North Africa and Eastern Europe. Most of them were controlled through violence and this was in a place that had the most stringent forms of regulation that was supposed to prevent this kind of thing from happening,” added Perrin.

The last myth I usually hear is the one about how legalization will go to fighting the spread of STDs. Again Ms. Corbella goes to Prof. Perrin…

“So, the john is promised a disease-free woman to purchase and do with as they choose, but that woman, who these regulations are supposedly made for her safety, she’s not given the same privilege to know that the person who is buying her is not infected with a life-threatening disease,” explained Perrin.

There is no benefit to legalizing prostitution whether it be in Canada, The States or wherever. If you keep buying into these myths by soliciting prostitutes you’re only filling the pockets of modern-day slave traders just so you can pay a woman to forcibly touch your woefully inadequate penis. ‘Hobbyists’ are nothing more than pay to play rapists.

Prostitute ads remain on Craigslist for Canadian cities:

The Canadian government is saying that while craigslist has removed the erotic services section from its site prostitution is still running rampant on craigslist. According to this article some of the ads have migrated to the therapeutic services section. This is the section that normally houses ads from legally licensed massage therapists, the non-happy ending kind.

This has long been a bone of contention (no pun intended) with massage therapists. They have long been saying that it’s hard for them to advertise on craigslist because their ads keep getting flagged by those who are not so legitimate.

This just goes to show that craigslist needs to be moderated as the so called community policing is actually a tool used to intimidate those who are trying to make an honest living.

Geebo.com reviews its own ads. It’s not that hard.

Craigslist removes erotic services ads:

It seems that with no fanfare or press conferences that craigslist has removed its erotic services section from its Canadian websites.

I went to the Toronto version of craigslist since T.O. supposedly has a big trafficking problem and sure enough not only is erotic services gone but so is the adult gigs section. Casual encounters is still there though so Canadians can still look for children to buy for sex on that section of the site but I digress.

3 countries down* and only 100+ more to go. Hopefully craigslist sees that human trafficking and prostitution in all forms is a global problem and will do this worldwide.

Personally I’d rather use a site that never considered an erotic services section like Geebo.com.

Sex slaves for sale on Craigslist:

This is a great article about how bad human trafficking and child prostitution is in Canada and how craigslist still has a hand in it.

It’s just as bad in Canada as it is in the US and once again craigslist is doing everything in their power to keep erotic services open in the Great White North.

As usual craigslist couldn’t be reached for comment.

You would think they would shut down erotic services like they did in the US to avoid not only human trafficking allegations but negative press as well.

Ontario tells Craigslist to axe prostitution ads now:

Two weeks after craigslist shut down the adult services section in the U.S. the provincial government of Ontario sent a letter to craigslist asking for them to do the same in their province. Craigslist responded by asking for a meeting with government officials. The Ontario government doesn’t want a meeting. They want erotic services gone and they want it gone yesterday.

“You have recently expressed an interest in meeting with us, but have not yet taken any steps to implement any such protections in Canada,” Bentley wrote to Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster.

“The urgency to protect Ontario’s most vulnerable citizens cannot hinge on a meeting, and we expect you to begin removing this content without delay.”

Craigslist, as usual, is up to their old tricks. There was no response from them to the Canadian media. Didn’t they learn from what happened here in the U.S.? Yet they are still pussy footing around with governments trying to avoid removing the ads that exploit women and children all across Canada.

How does that saying got about those who forget the past?

Previously I posted about how the Canadian Provinces of Ottawa and Manitoba have called for the removal of the erotic services section of craigslist in their provinces. Now the province of Alberta has also joined in the crusade. Those within the provincial government have called erotic services a “thinly veiled cover for human trafficking.”

Some have criticized Alberta for taking too long to join in the fight but the same could be said for just about any government. By my calculations the erotic services section has been around for 10 years. Why no government decided to step in until last year is beyond me but you all took too long. I’m grateful that steps are being taken to curb the tide of human trafficking online but this could have been done so much sooner and that especially includes the U.S.

RCMP wants Craigslist to block erotic ads in Canada:

While craigslist is in day 4 of its self imposed ‘censorship’ the Royal Canadian Mounted Police are pressuring craigslist to remove the erotic services section in Canada. As I’ve mentioned before while craigslist has gone from erotic services to adult services to the infamous black bar erotic services is still alive and kicking all over the world outside of the U.S.

How does the saying go? Think globally but act locally? Now is the time to really put that notion to use in order to try and stop child prostitution and human trafficking all over the world.

Again if you want to use a classifieds site that doesn’t dabble in human trafficking I recommend Geebo.com.

T-Shirt Winner will be announced tomorrow.
