Man released in NY-Wisconsin sex slave case, accuser balks at testifying:
You may remember the story of John Hopkins of New York. He was the man accused of luring a woman from Wisconsin to New York by promising free board with an ad on craigslist.
Hopkins has been released by the court since the alleged victim has refused to come back from Wisconsin to New York to testify.
Hopkins claimed that he was in a consensual BDSM relationship with the alleged victim.

Judge in Craigslist ‘sex-slave master’ case says consensual S&M can be criminal:
In the case of John Hopkins a judge has ruled that an S&M relationship can cross over into being rape, kidnap and torture.
If you’re not familiar with this story Hopkins is accused of making a 27-year-old Wisconsin woman his sex slave after promising her free rent on craigslist. Hopkins claims the pair were in a consensual BDSM relationship for two years. However the judge says that does not excuse some of things Hopkins is accused of doing.
“We’re dealing with two individuals with varying degrees of mental instabilities,” Judge Patricia DiMango said in the case of accused sicko “master” John Hopkins and his alleged victim, a 27-year-old Wisconsin woman.
“In these types of situations, with the facts presented by both sides, both the consensual and criminal can co-exist,” the judge said.
“At some point, it can change to a situation where no means no. There comes a time when they’re not playful fun any more and they become dangerous — criminally dangerous.”
Still, the judge said, “I’m not denying that at some point and at some time this abuse and torture was consensual.”
The article states that the victim claims she broke her hand trying to escape from being shackled.
Right now to me this seems like a he said/she said kind of case but still, as I said previously, with the injuries that the victim sustained the judge may be right in saying that the consensual and criminal can co-exist.
UPDATE: Hopkins has pleaded not guilty.

Craigslist ‘sex slave’ e-mail trail:
It figures. As soon as I post the story about the Wisconsin woman who claims that she was being held as a sex slave by a guy she met on craigslist it turns out that may not be the case.
The attorney for the suspect, John Hopkins, says that the woman allegedly had a BDSM type relationship for over a year and that they did not meet on craigslist.
“i yearn to serve my Master better. can i cook for you tomarrow? i love you so much.,” she allegedly wrote in the e-mail, which she signed “sub,” apparently for the S&M term submissive.
Even if that is the case John Hopkins may still be a rapist. Again I think the injuries that the victim sustained indicate rape.

Wis. woman says she was held in NYC as sex slave:
I’m sure you’ve all heard this story by now. A woman from Wisconsin responded to an ad on craigslist from a man seeking a roommate in Brooklyn, New York. The man offered to pay for not only her plane ticket from Wisconsin to New York but would pay her rent if she cooked and cleaned for him. Not to make light of the situation but with most too good to be true offers on craigslist too good to be true is a massive understatement.
Rather than cooking and cleaning police say that 45-year-old John Hopkins made the 27-year-old woman his sex slave. He allegedly chained her to a radiator, repeatedly beat her and raped her and forced him to call him master. This all went on for eight torturous days. Supposedly he only let her leave the apartment so she could go to work. More on that in a little bit.
The woman was treated for rectal bleeding and bruising. I’m sorry but that does not sound like a normal BDSM relationship to me.
As far as why the woman kept returning to the apartment I have a theory that was brought forth by lovely and talented wife Jade. She believes that since Hopkins probably had her personal information in order to purchase her plane ticket he probably threatened her family if she did not return. I have an addendum to that theory as well. The victim had a job as a chef on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. To me that sounds like this could have been her dream job and that she didn’t want to risk having to leave New York.
Both of those, to me, show just how much of a manipulative predator that John Hopkins can possibly be.
Also I would strongly recommend never falling for the craigslist ads that say that they’ll pay for your half of the rent in eschange for domestic services. More than likely they’re after something else.

Two Charged With Pimping Girls on Craigslist:
Two Brooklyn men busted in craigslist underage hooker scheme:
Authorities in Brooklyn, New York have indicted 25-year-old Arctic Rogers and 26-year-old Treymaine Songster with child prostitution. Surprisingly those aren’t their street names. Rogers referred to himself as “Scooby Da Don” which I guess makes his co-pimp Shaggy.
Scooby and Shaggy are accused of using both craigslist and backpage to prostitute two girls ages 15 and 17. Reports say that the pair used rape and threats of violence to keep the girls working for them.
Rogers is not only accused of branding the girls with his pimp name but he also allegedly filmed the girls having sex and then sold the videos online. So I guess we can add a child porn charge as well. To top it all of Rogers posted on his Facebook that his activities as “pimpin hoes” and “getting this money.” If it gets updated again I’m sure it will read ‘bein’ someones bitch” but I digress.
Police say that they’re may be other victims as well.
Not surprisingly craigslist couldn’t be reached for comment and I don’t think any media outlets even bothered to contact Village Voice Media about backpage since they probably don’t want to step on the toes of their media brethren.

Med Student Nabbed In Adderall Scheme:
B’klyn yuppie ‘pills ring’ nailed:
30-year-old Pauline Wiltshire of Brooklyn, New York was arrested recently for her role in an Adderall trafficking ring. Wiltshire is a former stripper according to some reports who is now, or was at least, studying medicine. It seems that she allegedly took to selling the ADD drug Adderall on craigslist to support her boyfriend’s gambling habit.
The boyfriend in question is one Dr. Michael H. Gabriel, an anesthesiologist in residency. Reports say that Gabriel had a fondness for gambling in the casinos of the town of my childhood, Atlantic City. In order to support his habit Gabriel would write prescriptions for Adderall to his girlfriend who would then get them filled and sell them on craigslist and other online venues. Supposedly one of Adderall’s ‘off label’ uses is that increases sex drive.
Wiltshire’s sister, Sarah Wiltshire Larkin, may have also had a hand in the operation as she is believed to have communicated with DEA agents in setting up a buy.
The ring is said to have sold somewhere between 6,000 and 11,000 of the pills.
Again this is just another story of how the community policing of craigslist does not work or else they would have not been able to sell so many of the pills illegally. And once again the reason behind that is the kind of clientele that a free and unmoderated classifieds site gets is the kind that doesn’t want to police ads and is looking for illicit substances or activities.
This kind of ad would never fly on Geebo.com since all ads are moderated there.

It’s been a while since we talked about yet another accused craigslist killer John Katehis. In March of 2009 Katehis allegedly stabbed New York radio newsman George Weber to death after Weber placed a craigslist ad looking for sex. And by stabbed I mean 50 times.
Katehis is claiming that he freaked out after Weber gave him cocaine and produced a knife and stabbed Weber in self defense, 50 times.
Katehis has not been helping his own defense since the March 2009 slaying. In one instance he refused to speak to the media unless it was for cash. In one court appearance he had ‘satanic’ scribblings all over his shoes. And of course there was his MySpace page of him posing with knives and claiming how much of a satanic badass he was.
His latest episode of not helping himself happened this week in court when his taped confession was aired. In the tape Katehis laughed at certain times while joking with investigators while he munched on a doughnut. While the confession was being played he was laughing along with himself in court.
Let’s not also forget that Katehis rolled Weber for $60 after he stabbed him. People who kill in self defense even while on cocaine usually don’t rob their dead victims. Not to mention Katehis said that he exchanged his bloody clothes for Webers. Again if it was self defense would he be trying to conceal evidence?
And it seems that Katehis’ lawyer isn’t helping either. Defense attorney Jeffrey Schwartz tried getting the judge recused from the trial because he felt the judge had a grudge against him.
“I cannot function as an attorney with a muzzle – and a blade pointed at my throat,” Schwartz told Firetog in court on Thursday.
Bad choice of words there pal.
Schwartz also claims that investigators and prosecutors terrified his client. Yeah, he’s so terrified that he joked and ate doughnuts and even laughed at himself in court. Sounds like a real scaredy cat to me.
George Weber’s plight should show you exactly how dangerous cruising for anonymous sex on craigslist could be.

8 Charged with Sex Trafficking Girls, Women in Brooklyn:
Bloods gang members went to Brooklyn schools to recruit underage girls as hookers: prosecutors:
Eight people in Brooklyn, some which are Bloods gang members, have been indicted for running 3 separate prostitution rings that included not only women but teens as young as 15.
They allegedly recruited girls from area high schools. If the girls or women did not make the minimum of $500 a day they would be beaten court papers say.
As is expected the girls were advertised on both craigslist and the Village Voice Media owned backpage.
Not only did both articles not seem a comment from Village Voice Media but they didn’t seek comment from craigslist either. Even if craigslist gave their usual non-response the effort would have been appreciated.
So the media is actually going backwards in their investigating.
