Craigslist not the only online site for sex ads:

Finally a major news outlet is shining the light on the Village Voice Media owned backpage.com. While commenting on craigslist’s self imposed censorship they mentioned that prostitution and human trafficking ads are still alive and well on backpage and they even mentioned that backpage is owned by VVM.

And taking a page out of craigslist’s book Village Voice Media could not be reached for comment by the Globe.

But let’s not stop there. Let’s also talk about the Boston Phoenix. The Phoenix is an independent newspaper in Boston that is infamous for not only being a paper that Daniel Pearl once worked for but also publicly displayed the video of Pearl being beheaded by terrorists. Let’s hear from the callous Peter Kadzis, editor of The Boston Phoenix whose paper also carries trafficking ads.

Peter Kadzis, editor of The Boston Phoenix, said he had not recently viewed the weekly’s classifieds online, but characterized any solicitation as a “victimless crime.’’ The effort to stop erotic ads on Craigslist, he said, has been “an election-year sideshow run by attorneys general running for reelection.’’

“We believe strongly in our First Amendment protection to run escort ads,’’ he said. “If there’s prostitution online, that’s for the police to deal with.’’

Ah yes, the old ‘victimless crime’ argument. That never gets old. Not to mention I think I have disproved that argument at least a few times. Well I’m going to exercise my first amendment rights by calling Kadzis a greedy coward and a blind fool who is just putting more money into the pockets of pimps and traffickers and all others who perpetrate the ‘victimless’ crime.

Pimp busted for backpage trafficking in Nashville

Man, Two Teen Girls Arrested In Prostitution Sting:

When there’s not a craigslist news story that doesn’t capture my attention, which is rare, the Village Voice Media owned backpage is always there to pick up the slack.

37-year-old Tyree Walker of Macon, Georgia was arrested in Nashville, Tennessee for allegedly prostituting two 17-year-old girls on backpage. Police set up the usual sting and charged him with trafficking for sexual servitude.

The girls were from Georgia and Virginia. Since he crossed state lines with minors wouldn’t he be able to be charged by the feds if they wanted to? Personally I’d rather see him serve his time in a Tennessee state prison than a federal one. Hopefully whatever jurisdiction he falls into will give him a real sentence and not some lame less than 20 years crap. You can’t combat human trafficking unless you put the traffickers away for a long time.

Instead of craigslist or backpage use Geebo.com instead. Someone’s daughters don’t get trafficked there.

West New York bust 2 more for backpage prostitution

WNY nabs 2 more in prostitution-relation sting; 1 is state employee:

Police in West New York, New Jersey arrested two people on backpage prostitution charges. The person driving the alleged prostitute was 31-year-old Ewar E. Solis and it is believed that he is a State of New Jersey employee, specifically the State Department of Law and Public Safety. How ironic?

Was he just driving her or was he also trafficking her? No pun intended. And again why aren’t the state attorneys general going after backpage and Village Voice Media as well?

Have I mentioned lately that Geebo.com has never had human trafficking on their site? Well they haven’t.

22-year-old Gerald Isaiah Thomason showed up at the Polk County, Florida craigslist and backpage prostitution bust with his 22-year-old girlfriend, a 17-year-old girl and his 9-month-old baby. Police say he was prostituting the 17-year-old girl. No word on how much money he would have taken for the baby.

What a son wouldn’t do for his mom…and 50 bucks

Deputies say son drove mother to sex appointment:

This is sort of a follow up to the major craigslist/backpage prostitution bust in Polk County, Florida.

23-year-old Lawson Wayne Bracewell III was charged with deriving money from prostitution in that bust for driving his mother, 40-year-old Pamela J. Small, to her appointment to have sex for money with some stranger from craigslist or backpage. Bracewell was charged because his mom gave him $50 to drive her to her sex appointment. I wonder why she couldn’t drive herself? Lost license maybe? And I don’t mean misplaced.

I don’t think Small was being trafficked in my opinion since she was also working as a waitress at Big Boy’s. Between the look of them I wouldn’t be surprised if at least one of them was feeding a habit and you know what I mean.

When asked for a comment Bracewell said “I’ll be telling my side of the story in court.” Let me know how that works out for you Zippy.

In the meantime you could use Geebo.com and not meet people that look like that.

44 arrested in craigslist and backpage prostitution ring

77-year-old man, pregnant woman, teen among dozens charged in prostitution sting:

Hot off the heels of their craigslist sting of 15 alleged child predators the Polk County Sheriff’s Department in Florida has produced another major bust.

This past weekend they arrested 44 said to be part of a prostitution ring that did business on both craigslist and the Village Voice Media owned backpage. Among those arrested were a 77-year-old pimp, a pregnant woman and a 17-year-old girl.

I’m not going to list the women because a lot of them are victims themselves but I will list some of the highlights. I’ll be listing some of the men who either solicited or profited.

Virgil Stanton, 77, of Auburndale is charged with Deriving Proceeds from Prostitution.

Shedy Ibrahim, 25, of Orlando is charged with Deriving Proceeds from Prostitution, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Cannabis with intent to sell, Possession of Cannabis, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Gerald Thomason, 19, of Lake Wales is charged with Deriving Proceeds from Prostitution, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, and Resisting without Violence.

Lawson Bracewell, 23, of Deltona is charged with Deriving Proceeds from Prostitution.

Jerome Holt, 23, of Lutz is charged with Soliciting another for Prostitution.

Randy Casey, 29, of Sanford is charged with Deriving Proceeds from Prostitution.

Kabir S. Sanchez Diaz, 25, of Orlando is charged with Deriving Proceeds from Prostitution, Possession of Cannabis, Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Raymond Lewis James, 33, of Tampa is charged with Deriving Proceeds from Prostitution.

Joseph Renfort, 34, of Winter Haven is charged with Soliciting another for Prostitution.

Justin Shelley, 36, of Tampa is charged with Soliciting another for Prostitution.

These people are the real problem and should be jailed for a long time. Give them a sentence that really hurts and not some damn fine. If you want to do something serious about prostitution jail the pimps and johns. Cut off both the supply and the demand.

This story does bring up two issues though.

The first shows that craigslist isn’t really moderating the adult services ads. If they were then how did their ads get past the moderators? The police didn’t place these ads, they just responded to them.

The second is that Village Voice Media obviously doesn’t give a crap about child prostitution and human trafficking and they still escape most media and legal outrage.

Did I mention I know the people who run Geebo.com? The classifieds that actually have a conscience.

6 charged in Denver with backpage child prostitution

6 charged with child prostitution:

Group arrested for child prostitution and trafficking:

6 people in Denver, Colorado have been charged with child prostitution, 4 for trafficking and 2 for soliciting. Not surprisingly but quietly (in the media anyway) this took place on the Village Voice Media owned backpage.com

The girl is a 17-year-old runaway who was trafficked by 32-year-old David Glenn Abney, 28-year-old Chrystal Terbush, 19-year-old Tevin Willis and 19-year-old Daivean Shields.

Vincent Thomas, 44, and John Mark Campbell, 42, have been arrested for allegedly paying for sex with the girl.

Again, it’s not just craigslist that is facilitating child prostitution and human trafficking.

Doctor charged with Backpage child trafficking

Oh Backpage. Just because there has been a craigslist media storm lately don’t think that I’ve forgotten about you.

Anyway 35-year-old Dr. Joshua Payer of Sioux Falls, South Dakota has been arrested and charged with child trafficking since he used the services of an underage prostitution ring that was being run on the Village Voice Media owned backpage.com. If that sounds slightly familiar it’s because that’s the same backpage prostitution ring that was being run by Brandon Thompson and Megan Hayes of Tea, SD that I’ve posted about before.

Payer is accused of using the services of 16 and 17-year-old prostitutes. He’s also been charged with writing phony oxycontin prescriptions for Thompson.

His request for a pre-trial release was denied. For once a judge doing his job. He’s looking at 80 years behind bars.

The reason you don’t hear a lot about backpage is they’re run by Village Voice Media that also owns several newspapers including The Village Voice. A theory that has been proposed to me that I tend to agree with is the reason backpage stories don’t make the news as often because other media outlets are afraid to step on the toes of another.

Backpage is just as equally culpable for human trafficking as craigslist. If you read any of their publications you are supporting human trafficking.

As I always say if you want to use a classifieds site guilt free I recommend Geebo.com. They screen their ads to keep them free of human trafficking and also to keep you safe.

Diversity: thy name is backpage prostitution

I received another press release from New York attorney Pete Gleason about his ongoing feud with Village Voice journalist Wayne Barrett which I first posted about here. Again I am not taking sides in this feud however Mr. Gleason does bring up a good point.

Wayne Barrett’s most recent vitriol has been spewed at the Reverend Al Sharpton. Barrett once again spins his innuendo producing nothing more than gibberish.

Civil Rights Attorney, Pete Gleason, knows both the oft criticized Reverend and Barrett, the prince of the poison pen. Gleason contends Barrett should turn the mirror on himself. According to Gleason, “Reverend Sharpton has stood in front of his constitutional right of free speech while Barrett has made a career of hiding behind it.”

Barrett benefits, in the form of a paycheck, from Village Voice Media which is complicit in the exploitation of women by virtue of their prostitution ads. This ostensibly, in the name of free speech. A perusal of a recent edition of the Village Voice showed a total of approximately 180 display ads for what appeared to be prostitution. Out of those ads, where a person’s face was visible, some 102 or 56% appeared to be people of color. Perhaps that’s Barrett’s idea of diversity. Furthermore, the compensation Barrett derives from the Village Voice enables him to reside in the overwhelmingly Caucasian neighborhood.

I make no claim to the veracity of Mr. Gleason’s statements however he is correct about one thing. Village Voice Media does profit from the prostitution trade not only in their publications but in their free classifieds website backpage.com as well.

As I’ve mentioned before while craigslist faces the wrath of law enforcement and media, which they deserve, backpage continues to get a free pass possibly because Village Voice Media could turn their ‘journalistic’ guns towards their detractors.

Personally I think the reason why there haven’t been as many backpage stories in the media as there are craigslist stories are because of fear of journalistic retribution.

Backpage hooker bust in West New York

West New York police report making three more prostitution-related arrests:

Police in West New York, New Jersey (it’s a real place, look it up) have arrested three people on charges of prostitution that was advertised on the Village Voice Media owned backpage. That makes 58 arrests for that this year in West New York.

Again the media and the activists should not only be calling on craigslist to put an end to their prostitution dealing but they have to go after Backpage as well. While craigslist is under the gun backpage is escaping all sorts of wrath owed to them.
