Joseph C. Vignola Jr.

Joseph Vignola Jr. admits attacking woman he met on Craigslist:

Angry looking little bastard isn’t he?

Anyway this is one of those stories that I don’t know how the hell I missed it when it happened. Back in 2008 Philadelphia police arrested Joseph C. Vignola Jr. for slashing the throat of an 18-year-old woman that he ‘met’ on the then erotic services section of craigslist.

The pair met at a hotel where they had sex then argued about something (money?) and Vignola punched her in the throat, sat on top of her until she passed out then slit her throat. And in true GTA style he took the money that he gave her.

To make matters worse Vignola tried blaming the assault on a ‘light skinned black man’ that supposedly broke in while they were having sex.

Last week the now 21-year-old son of a former Philly city councilman pleaded guilty to the brutal assault. He’s looking at 30 years but his equally slimy lawyer is trying to get him 4 1/2-7.

Vignola should be touted as the poster boy of the kind of scum that used to troll the erotic services and adult services section and that probably still trolls the casual encounters section and currently trolling the erotic services sections outside the US. A guy like this is also probably trolling the adult sections of backpage as well.

No monitoring means the inmates are running the asylum and this guy is the prototype.

Burnsville man guilty of using girl, 16, for prostitution:

Just because craigslist has shut down the adult services in the US for now doesn’t mean the aftermath still isn’t felt.

For example there is 38-year-old Arthur J. Chappell. He’s an ex-con that was convicted recently for trafficking and prostituting a 16-year-old girl on both Backpage and craigslist in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. Chappell not only pimped the girl out but he sexually assaulted her as well.

Chappell is looking at a lifetime max. I pray he gets every day of that.

Craigslist may be changing their ways in the US but they still have erotic services in the rest of the world and they have much penance still to go. Backpage is just scum.

Again, if you want to use a classifieds site that never made a dime off the backs of trafficked women and children I recommend Geebo.com.

Parker County sting operation nets prostitution arrests:

Police in Parker County, Texas ran a prostitution sting back in August using the Village Voice Media owned backpage.com. In the sting they netted six people for various offenses related to prostitution.

One of the women arrested on prostitution charges allegedly had her 1-year-old child and 10-month-child with her when she went to meet her ‘client’ which turned out to be the police.

That should be something that you’re real proud of backpage. Facilitating the meetings between johns, prostitutes and their kids.

Connecticut’s Blumenthal, Along With Other AGs, Calls for Closure of Backpage.com:

21 state Attorneys General have called upon the Village Voice Media owned Backpage.com to close its adult section. You know, the section where women and children are trafficked and exploited.

Those states include Connecticut, Arkansas, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

Noticeably absent is New York where the Village Voice got its start, Arizona where VVM is now headquartered and California just on general principle.

When the AGs did this with craigslist I called them opportunistic and asked what took them so long. However with backpage while I’m sure there is some opportunism behind the move I have to give the AGs credit for not only acting so swiftly after craigslist shut down adult services but for going after a site that is not nearly well known as craigslist.

Again Backpage could not be reached for comment. They really need to get a mouthpiece that I can make fun of. That would really make history repeat itself.

And to those who bitched that craigslist was made out to be an unfair target I got two words for you.

Backpage.com, VVMH Helped FBI Catch Child Predator:

In response to the lawsuit filed against them by a victim of child trafficking Village Voice Media owned Backpage.com released the following press release. Since its a press release I’m going to copy and paste the whole thing. I mean they want the press right? I’m more than happy to give it to them.

PHOENIX, AZ–(Marketwire – September 19, 2010) – On Friday, an attorney attempted to milk a tragedy by suing Village Voice Media Holdings, LLC and its related entity Backpage.com in a child predator case in which Backpage.com’s records helped convict Latasha Jewell McFarland of pimping out a minor.

The lawsuit is riddled with errors. The claim that we knowingly assisted McFarland in committing criminal acts is a lie fabricated by a trial lawyer looking for a payday. The attorney seeks to redirect blame from a convicted predator to Backpage.com, which helped prosecute the criminal.

Without our knowledge, the predator violated our terms of use. Backpage.com has stringent safeguards in place to ensure that only adults use the site. We provided the FBI with the perpetrator’s I.P. address and credit-card information.

Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act of 1996 recognized that the very nature of the Internet meant that vast traffic depended on the ability of citizens to post directly onto websites like Backpage.com, Facebook, MySpace or eBay, or to have search engines like Google and Yahoo find postings without pre-screening or censorship. The responsibility, under the law, rests with the person supplying the post.

In the last two years, Backpage.com has had 58 million posts, of which 6 million were adult. In this vast exchange of information, law enforcement agencies have asked for our testimony in precisely five underage cases.

Because one case is too many, we have, and we will continue to, cooperate willingly with authorities.

It seems that backpage has the same conundrum that craigslist did. You can’t really pride yourself on helping put a child trafficker behind bars when it was your site that was used as the avenue to pimp out a 14-year-old girl. And they say that ‘without their knowledge’ the trafficker violated their TOS. What do they think everyone posting in their adult section is doing? Again just like craigslist in the past backpage is insulting the intelligence of people who actually care about human trafficking and not the almighty dollar.

Also just like craigslist, backpage likes to throw around the Communications Decency Act of 1996. That was 14 years ago. Isn’t the internet a vastly different place then it was back in ’96? Hell I wasn’t even on the internet back in ’96. When the law was written I’m sure the thought of human trafficking never even crossed their minds. That’s one law that is in desperate need of an overhaul so sites that make money off the backs of children and women forced into sexual slavery would get the repercussions that they’re do.

And again, like I need to say it, backpage is emulating their older friend craigslist by claiming that they will continue to work with authorities. Yet they still won’t do anything to prevent law enforcement from being called in the first place.

Same song, different band.

Here’s the windup, and the pitch. If you want to use a site that has never had to dance around issues like this I recommend Geebo.com.

Girl prostituted at 14 sues online ad site:

The other day I posted about a 14-year-old girl that was trafficked on the Village Voice Media owned backpage.com. Now that same girl, who is now 15, is suing backpage for allowing her to be trafficked.

The girl was trafficked by 27-year-old Latasha Jewell McFarland who has already pleaded guilty and is looking at prison time.

The girl’s attorney, Robert Pedroli, is aware that the Federal Communications Decency Act absolves most websites of content posted by its users however he says that the Child Abuse Victims Rights Act supersedes that.

“We allege they are the facilitators,” Pedroli said. “They provide an online safe house for these pimps and these johns to meet. They are aiders and abetters under federal law.”

No word on how much they’re suing for but I wish them well and I hope this will bring more attention to backpage who isn’t even pretending to be doing anything about this.

Again, Geebo.com, never trafficked, never will.

Man arranges for sex at McDonalds via Craigslist, police say:

Police in Huntersville, NC, which is one town over from Charlotte, arrested 35-year-old Wilson Toro for trying to arrange anonymous sex with another man on craigslist.

Toro wanted to set up the meeting for a McDonald’s rest room in Huntersville. Instead of getting his order filled Huntersville police were waiting for him.

Seriously, in this day and age of tolerance, not to mention sexual predators and killers, why do gay men still feel the need to use craigslist and public rest rooms for anonymous sex? I don’t care if your gay or straight I don’t want to be in McDonald’s and walk into the restroom to see two people getting it on.

Fire Captain Pleads Guilty In Sex Case:

I originally posted about 55-year-old Martin Vohwinkel here. He’s the fire captain from Henderson, Nevada who was busted for trying to set up a sex meeting with a 14-year-old girl on craigslist’s casual encounters section. The 14-year-old girl turned out to be the Henderson police.

He’s pleaded guilty to the charges against him and will be sentenced on December 17th. He’s only looking at 10 years which as usual is a joke. I doubt this was his first casual encounters rodeo.

With Craigslist sex ads gone, where’s the money going?:

In this blog post from the AIM Group they say that the Village Voice Media owned backpage.com is set to make $17.5 Million in sex ads alone. They were also the ones who reported that craigslist was well on its way to make $45 Million but will lose about $12-15 million since they shut down adult services.

The bad thing about backpage is the money is probably going right back into their pockets. As far as I know they don’t even claim to use the money to combat human trafficking as craigslist used to.

So backpage, where is the money going?

You know who doesn’t make any money off of human trafficking because they don’t allow those kind of ads? Geebo.com, that’s who.

Gun in Craigslist Murder Not Military Issued:

It turns out that the alleged killer of Youa Lor was a member of the National Guard as was his accomplice.

Dao Xiong (pictured) is the man accused of shooting Lor to death in order to take his 2003 Nissan 350Z for parts after the victim was trying to sell it on craigslist. His accomplice, Keng Thao, is said to be the mastermind behind the crime. Both are members of the Minnesota National Guard where Thao is a vehicle mechanic.

The Fox affiliate in Minneapolis is reporting that the gun used to shoot Lor was not of military issue.
