Man pretends to be cop to avert craigslist robbery

Quick-Thinking Victim Scares Away Robbers:

In Ypslanti, Michigan a man was almost robbed while trying to complete a craigslist transaction in a park.

The man was approached by one person from the front and two from behind. The victim says he started acting like a police officer and scared the would be robbers away. While this worked for him this is one of the more stupid things you can do. Sometimes criminals are not intimidated by police and you could end up getting hurt or worse.

However the article provides a good tip from a passer by.

“I’ve sold bicycles, and house-hold goods. I usually don’t have people come to my house. I usually request their phone number instead of me giving them my phone number,” Maes said.

While not foolproof in this day of caller ID it can be helpful.
