Va. man nabbed in Craigslist sex sting; drawn in by fake ad:

Claude Philip Diehl Jr., of Hollywood, Virginia was arrested for allegedly trying to trade beer and cash for having sex with a 13-year-old girl. Diehl allegedly responded to an ad on craigslist that read in part “Leftover Halloween candy? “Anyone have candy to donate to ‘girl’ so she’s not sad anymore?” The ad was in the casual encounters section. You know, one of the many un-moderated sections of craigslist.

Diehl allegedly worked for a beer distributor and promised the father who was pimping out his daughter $40 and 5 cases of beer. He showed up for the tryst with the beer and the cash, condoms and a Miley Cyrus CD. Luckily when the beer was placed in the father’s truck it turns out the father was part of the Leesburg, Virginia police force and promptly arrested Diehl.

Luckily this was all a sting operation and there was no 13-year-old girl however it shows a couple of things. First, while this ad was a fake it shows that there are people out there whoring out their kids on craigslist. The second thing is that if craigslist’s user policing works as well as they claim this ad should have never seen the light of day. And Lastly Jim Buckmaster can’t claim that this has happened in newspaper advertisements. I don’t think any self respecting newspaper would have ever run an ad like that.

I am dying of curiosity to know what kind of beer it was.

Tea couple accused of sex trafficking involving underage girls:

Brandon Quincy Thompson, 26, and his girlfriend Megan Marie Hayes, 30, of Tea, South Dakota have been federally charged with pimping out underage girls on backpage. Thompson and Hayes are both looking at life sentences.

For once a media outlet is finally calling backpage to task and backpage is acting familiar…

We contacted the BackPage Web site by email as to why such ads were being allowed on the site since they appeared to violate the terms of agreement. We have received no answer from the company.

It sounds like Village Voice Media is taking a page out of the book of craigslist.

Man faces stalking charge after meeting woman through Craigslist:

Yet another cautionary tale of what lurks on craigslist.

Police in Austin, Texas say 24-year-old John Bateman was stalking a woman he met through craigslist. He did the usual stalking stuff of threatening e-mails and text messages but the he stepped it up a notch.

He allegedly called her and threatened to burn down her house and rape her teenage daughter.

In my opinion this is typical of the dregs of society that go through the personals and casual encounter sections of craigslist.

Edmonton unlicensed escorts fined almost $134,000:

The city of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada fined several unlicensed escorts and agencies a total of $134K Canadian. Not enough to make a serious dent if you ask me. However this article allows me to bring up two points.

The first is that the escorts were mostly found on craigslist and eBay owned Kijiji. Now craigslist is deserving for the scorn and criticism that is heaped upon them for their contribution to the prostitution problem but why has eBay and Village Voice Media, who own backpage, have largely come out of this unscathed?

My second point is this quote from Edmonton Detetctive Chuck Prince…

Prince explained that it’s important to regulate the industry, because if it gets out of control organized crime steps in. That, in turn, can result in turf wars and chaos, as happened years ago when the exotic dancing industry fell into criminal hands and a building was blown up.

Which would result in more unvictims.

Cleveland robber who used Craigslist to lure a victim gets 12 years in prison:

34-year-old Shawn Williams of Cleveland, Ohio was sentenced to 12 years behind bars for a pair of robberies he was convicted for.

The one we’re concerned about was the one where Williams posted an ad on craigslist for a large screen TV, a Playstation and some games for $1000.

When a buyer met up with Williams he robbed him at gunpoint.

This tends to happen when you’re dealing with the virtually anonymous.

Police Investigate Craigslist Sex Post:

Police in Sacramento, California are investigating the following ad they allegedly found on craigslist…

Hi. “I’m 12 and I need sexual help. I wanna be experienced when I get to high school. Don’t email me. Just call…”

The number itself traced back to a prepaid cell phone.

Police do not think that it is an actual 12-year-old girl but some kind of sexual predator. Unfortunately their hands are tied with what they can do since this isn’t a life or death situation.

However this goes to show you that this is just another criminal activity that is going on unabated on craigslist and they still choose to do nothing about it.

Like I’ve said many times before that self policing does not work. The people who traverse the sections of craigslist that contain these kind of ads are not going to flag any illegal ads because that is exactly what they’re looking for.

Man fined for offering sex with wife:

49-year-old Florian Penev of the Bronx pleaded guilty in a Norwalk, Conn. court to pimping out his wife, 36-year-old Zdravka Zotkova, on craigslist back in June.

He was fined a measly $2000.

He claims that he lost his job as a graphic designer so naturally the next obvious step is to pimp your wife out on craigslist.

Also I thought craigslist was monitoring their site for illegal prostitution now. It’s amazing how nothing has changed since craigslist claimed they were screening their ads.

Man, estranged wife charged with filming themselves raping girl, 4:

Friend of the site Dodia Fae sent in this tip to be considered under the News of Doom section of the site. It certainly does meet the requirements for that but I did a little digging and found that the story has a craigslist connection. But I’m getting a little ahead of myself.

Our story starts with 38-year-old Richard Hockaday of San Diego. He’s a sex offender who posed as a single mother on craigslist looking for others to have some sort of ‘fantasy’ in either San Diego or the Seattle area. Hockaday is accused of sexually abusing a boy he was mentoring between 2003 and 2007.

Through craigslist Hockaday was able to meet Brian Beston, 36, and Hollie Beston, 31, of Burien, Washington. Allegedly the 360 lb Brian Beston (pictured) would have sex with a 4-year-old girl while filmed by Hollie Beston in exchange for other child porn images from Hockaday.

Both Bestons have pleaded not guilty.

It shouldn’t be very surprising that these child molesting scumbags used craigslist to find each other. It seems to be the bulletin board of choice for pedophiles. I would love to know from Jim Buckmaster personally as to why that self policing of craigslist didn’t prevent this.

Teenage prostitutes in Eugene: ‘Our main goal … is to rescue these girls’:

The article starts out with telling about James Dublin of Illinois was sentenced to 50 days plus probation for enaging in sexual acts with a 15-year-old prostitute he found on craigslist. That sentence is a joke. Granted that she advertised as being 19 but that shouldn’t matter. If you really want to discourage people from engaging in any aspect of child prostitution they really need to be sentenced to some hard time.

The article goes on to state the obvious that a lot of these girls advertise on craigslist’s adult services section. You know that section don’t you? That’s the one that is supposed to be screened to have only legal adult businesses with a screening process that only seems to be known to craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster.

Last time I checked 15-year-old hookers aren’t a legal adult business in any sense of the word.

Police: Mother, Daughter Prostitution Team In Trouble Again:

Remember when I posted about the mother/daughter hooker team that were posting on craigslist and backpage? No, not the ones from Philadelphia, the ones from Frazier Park, California. Yeah those are the ones.

Anyway the mother of the pair, 56-year-old Katherine Silvers, was arrested again on prostitution charges. This time it happened in Long Island. She gets around apparently.

The article says that she continued to post her masseuse services online in Long Island. So I’m guessing craigslist and backpage were used once again and I get to quote myself from the last post I made about this…

And again it shows just how porous craiglist’s mystery screening process is. And backpage…well they just don’t give a shit.
