I would never recommend doing business on craigslist. However I did have the opportunity to try out a new service that is supposed to make doing business on craigslist a little safer.

TrustMe.com is an identity verification service that not only shows that you’re an actual person but can also be used to make sure that a buyer is an actual person too and not a thief or worse.

Now I am a master of filling out online accounts with false information. However I threw all of my tricks at it including the kitchen sink and I could not fool them.

The only thing I didn’t like about it is that the some of the information process seemed kind of Big Brother-ish and some people may feel uncomfortable giving that information.

All in all TrustMe.com gets the highly sought Trench Reynolds seal of approval.

UPDATE: Here is a link to a free TrustMe.com sign up for CCL readers.

Teen who was pimped out on Craigslist arrested:

The Cook County, Illinois Sheriff’s Department arrested a 16-year-old girl who was being prostituted on craigslist. The girl was previously arrested 3 weeks ago on the same charge by Chicago police. The girl was charged as a juvenile and returned to her family and is being referred to social services for counseling.

So basically twice her ad got past craigslist’s less than stringent screening process. Supposedly only ‘legitimate’ adult businesses are allowed on their adult services section.

Craigslist ad leads to prostitution charges: Tomahawk, Wisc.Another ‘adult services’ ad slips through the mystery screening process.

Another Albany med student accused of using Craigslist for crimes:

24-year-old Daniel P. Heeren is a third year medical student at the Albany Medical College. Heeren is accused of placing an ad on craigslist trolling for young boys. Police in Bethlehem, New York were more than happy to set him up with a new playmate. Of course that turned out to be the Bethlehem Police Department.

At the time of his arrest a sex toy, condoms and lube were confiscated from Heeren.

I don’t even want to know what he was going to use the toy for.

And hmmmmm, I wonder what section of craigslist Heeren was using. It couldn’t have been the casual encounters section could it? I get the feeling the encounter was going to be anything but casual.

Child-sex exploiter gets 150-month prison term:

35-year-old Dennis Paige of Novi, Michigan, whose pimp name is Detroit Slim, was sentenced to only 150 months for pimping out underage girls on craigslist. That’s 12 1/12 years. He pleaded guilty to charges of child sexual exploitation, transporting minors to have illegal sex and distributing child pornography. For all that 12 1/2 years is a joke.

Newport Beach man sentenced to prison, again, after posing as attorney: L.A. Fake Lawyer fail.

Sherman Oaks woman robbed after advertising on Craigslist: L.A. again. Craigslist ‘masseuse’ robbed.

NW Pa. woman’s number in fake Craigslist sex ad: This one is pretty self explanatory.

Rape suspect arrested for attack on Craigslist exotic masseuse:

In what seems to be the crime du jour on craigslist since erotic services was changed another masseuse has been reportedly raped this time in Portland, Oregon.

Police arrested 26-year-old Kurtis Raymond Steltz for allegedly raping a woman that was offering her services for exotic massages on craigslist.

Police say that Steltz forced the woman at gunpoint to give him oral sex at several locations before striking her and choking her and raping her on a park table.

Isn’t it amazing how criminals adapt to craigslist’s cosmetic changes?

Family Decries Fake Craigslist Ads:

Someone in Columbus, Ohio posted an ad giving away a baby. The ad said that they’ll give the baby away at childbirth and listed an address. That address belongs to the actual unborn baby’s father. The mother is 14-years-old but the father claims that he is going to keep the child.

However he fears for his family’s safety because of his address being listed and some of the fake ads being very harsh like “If you don’t come get him I am going to toss him out like an old rag.”

Craigslist has been taking the ads down but they keep reappearing and even if the word gets out that the father is not posting the ads it almost doesn’t matter because most of the idiots that use craigslist will believe anything that’s posted on the site.
