Tales from the craigslist

Since my appearances on CNN and CBS I have received a handful of e-mails from people telling me their experiences with craiglsit. Within the next week or so I’ll be posting those e-mails so people can be forewarned of what craigslist is all about.

The first e-mail comes from professional writer Rodger Jacobs. He gave me permission to use his name. In future e-mails identities will be protected. Anyway, Mr. Jacobs experience with craigslist didn’t necessarily involve a crime but I think it goes to show what craigslist really thinks about its users…

I am a professional mid-list writer and journalist who has used the Literary and Writing Forum at Craigs List for nine years for workshopping speculative works of fiction. Beginning a few years ago, I was systematically harassed and stalked by several “trolls” attempting to denigrate my professional standing (one was an ex-girlfriend who confessed to me that she was harrassing me in the forum, along with her webmaster).

Over the years, repeated pleas for more aggressive monitoring by CL staffers was ignored time and time again.

In December ’08 I was forced to finally pull out of active membership in the Literary Forum and the link posted below (from my personal blog)provides a brief but detailed history of the stalking and harassment.

Please feel free to republish excerpts or the entire posting at your site. For far too long, Craigs List has provided a safe haven for both real-world and cyberstalkers and that free reign has got to stop.

Any kind of unmoderated site on the internet is not only going to be overrun by trolls it’s also going to be a huge invitation for the criminal element. Don’t give me users policing the site either because obviously it just isn’t working.
