craigslist apartment scam in British Columbia

Cops warn of online rental scams:

We have a new name to add to the list of craigslist scammers. Well, not so much a name but an e-mail address, melinda_sandra@yahoo.com.

This scam took place in Victoria, British Columbia and was an ad for a too good to be true apartment rental…

“She said she was in India, and unfortunately she had nobody to let me check inside [the apartment], but if I wanted to send a $900 deposit and $1,300 for first month’s rent she’d courier the key out to me.”

Luckily the would be renter did some research and realized it was a scam.

As always the too good to be true price and the fact that the seller was from abroad should have been two giant red flags that it was a scam.
