Alleged craigslist fence defended by his mom

Mom defends Hofstra student accused of selling stolen property on Craigslist:

24-year-old William Panagako of Wellesley, Mass. attends college at Hofstra University on Long Island. He’s been arrested for selling stolen goods on craigslist. He allegedly sold a stolen boat trailer and outboard motor on craigslist. He also has a prior arrest in Massachusetts for having stolen property. But none of that will stop his mom from defending him…

“He received it, and he didn’t know it was stolen,” said the woman, who would not give her name, identifying herself only as Panagako’s mother. “He’s a kid. He was trying to make some money on the side. He got stuck in the middle of this.

“We all saw the boats. They could have arrested even my husband and I,” Panagako’s mom said. “We got good deals on the boats. The police are making this a lot more than it is.”

Clueless moms always make for good copy. And how sad is it that a 24-year-old has to be defended by his mommy?

i work at a lobster company on the water in narragansett rhode island just a few miles from your family's summer house. i work very hard for not much pay but enjoy a very good quality of life. i get to bring my 2 black labs to work every day, my fishing rods for striper fishing off our unloading dock, etc. 2 summers ago my boss suprised me with a small skiff as a thank you for my hard work and long hours. one of my offshore lobster boat captains gave me a brand new 15 horse outboard he had in storage to put on the boat. the entire port pitched in materials and labor to build a "doggie ramp" and a floating dock to tie the boat up to. everyone was very proud! the boat is just outside my office and during lunch breaks or precious slow periods i take my 2 dogs to a small beach across the way to swim, dig clams and catch fish and just run on the beach. pretty cool job. remember we work hard and long days but we also need to play long and hard. one of the stolen outboards you took was mine. i can not afford to replace it. cops and sazuki have all confirmed serial numbers but now the outboard has been stolen from the police impoundment. bye, bye motor. bye, bye quality of life, bye bye faith in the system and worst of all bye bye to a great daily escape for my 2 dogs and myself. you took much more than a motor, you took away all that we look forward to after a brutal 10/12 hour day of breaking our backs. our spirits are disappointed but not broken. shame on you!diana, mabel & lizaport of galileenarragansett, rhode island

I owned the boat and trailer the Panagako listed on craiglist and I am the one that alerted the police that it was listed. I also helped the cops set up the buy that resulted in his arrest.  Panagako got off with probation and we were denied restitution. It gets even worse.. a few days after the police recovered our boat along with the motor that Panagako stole from someone else, the motor was stolen from the impound company used by the Wellesley police.  The motor that was stolen was a 15 HP Suzuki (it was in the photo on craigslist.  Jeff doesn’t have his facts straight, and I suspect he is, or friendly with the thief.  According to Charlestown, RI police, Panagako was found to be in possession of multiple boat trailer plates at the time of his arrest, causing suspicion that this was not his first time at the helm of a stolen boat,
