Blocked transfer of suspect surprises prosecutors:
Ann Marie Linscott has been granted a two week stay by a federal judge in Michigan basically blocking her extradition to California for now.
This comes as a shock to prosecutors in California.
Michelle Rodriguez, a 19-year veteran with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California, said Linscott’s court-appointed lawyer may have requested the stay with the intention of keeping the case permanently in Grand Rapids.
Why a judge is even entertaining this request is beyond me. In a perfect world the justice system is supposed to defend the innocent and punish the guilty, not to bend to every whim of a self-confessed criminal.
For those of you who may have forgotten Linscott is the ‘lady’ from Michigan who placed an ad on craigslist searching for a hitman that would kill her ‘lover’s’ wife in California.
Speaking of the wife she’s so afraid for her life that she’s left the country. And it seems from the article she didn’t take her husband with her. Do you blame her?
Anyway according to Ms. Rodriguez, who I’ve quoted above, there’s very little chance of the case actually staying in Michigan.
