Update on craigslist green card marriage scam

LA man pleads guilty in ‘green card marriage’ case:
Back in November I posted an entry about a couple from California who were arrested for having a scam green card marriage.

Russian national Yuliya Kalinina placed an ad on craigslist offering $15,000 to anyone that would marry her so she could stay in the country. 30-year-old Benjamin Adams took her up on her offer.

They married in Feb, 2006 but the feds didn’t buy it and they were both arrested by Immigration back in November of 2007.

Fast forward to now where Mr. Adams has pleaded guilty to federal felony charges of marriage fraud. There was no plea agreement and Mr. Adams is looking at 5+ years in prison.

Kalinina has pleaded not guilty saying she didn’t know it was illegal to marry for a green card and is scheduled for trial on Feb. 5th.
