Victim Helps Police Catch Thief Through Craigslist:
Sergei Dmitriev of the University of Minnesota had his laptop stolen. One of his roommates suggested that he check craigslist to see if it turned up there. Lo and behold there it was. Dmitriev contacted the seller who lived only a block away and set up a meeting. When he went to the meeting the laptop matched the serial number. He sent a text message to his roommates who in turn contacted police.
Arrested was one 39-year-old Daniel Gonzalez pictured at right. It was discovered that Gonzalez was running a racket of selling stolen goods on craigslist and was using false IDs to rent a room at a frat house claiming he was 25.
Good job to Mr. Dmitriev for out-thinking and bringing down a career criminal.
