Renters lose cash in Craigslist apartment scam:
Here we have another craigslist real estate scam story, this time from Kent, Washington. Someone advertised for a roommate on craigslist looking for someone to share their apartment with. Except they weren’t really planning on sharing. The “renter” collected anywhere from $180 to $1K from people who were looking for a place to stay. Meanwhile the real apartment managers were in the process of evicting the “renter”.
Police say to avoid falling victim a scam like this, deal only with the apartment rental office. Shortcuts won’t get you a good deal — but they’re a sure route to losing your money.
Sage advice indeed.
