I received the following comment on my most recent post that was about a 13-year-old girl that was being prostituted on craigslist…

Craigslist no more “facilitates child prostitution” than you, seeking to demonize paid sex between consenting adults by linking it to “child hookers,” facilitate right-wing morality squad fascism, police corruption, the waste of billions of dollars of taxpayer money, and the ability of real criminals to commit crimes unchecked. Maybe if the law didn’t criminalize honest sex work in order to serve as the private tool of some peoples’ envy, hate, and intolerance by people like you, more people would have respect for the law and the police would have more cooperation from citizens in keeping real crime like kids being forced into sex from happening. But you, Mr. “who says prostitution is a victimless crime” would rather keep seeing stories like this in order to be able to justify your narrow-minded bigotry against sex work in general, wouldn’t you?

First of all Starchild? Really? Hippies can be so hateful can’t they?

Anyway Barfchild you must be new around here. Like I’ve said before I hold the unpopular opinion in the crime blogging community that prostitution should be legal. In theory it would take the girls off the streets, put pimps out of business, eliminate a lot of the extraneous crime that surrounds prostitution, and would let people like you get laid without fear of arrest. Plus I’ve put more strippers’ kids through private school then the baby daddies. So in reality I have no bigotry against sex workers.

However the fact remains that as of now prostitution in most of the United States is illegal. Even if it was legal there would still be a black market for underage girls. Legalization would not change that.

How can you deny that craigslist helped facilitate this poor girl’s life of sexual slavery? They allowed an ad for a blatantly illegal service to posted on their website. They refuse to police their own site stating that their readers are their police. Yet their readers are obviously patrons of illegal activity so nothing is getting policed. In my eyes craigslist is as responsible as the scumbag pimp that turned this child out on the street. And if you don’t think he’s a real criminal then you are mentally and morally deficient.

    It sounds to me like "star child" is a prostitute herself. Even if it was legalize nothing would change, the crime would rise, there would be more women being murdered by sick fucks. They stand on the street harassing passing motorist. It is illegal for a reason, its sick and immoral. Plus could you imagine the increase of std and such. I think there should be special facilities that house repeat prostitution offenders, as unrealistic as it sounds. And craiglist does have a lot to do with prostitution, and it needs to be taken down or regulated by normal people. Trench, kudos to you for dealing with such petty ass people. Someone needs to start a group to shut that site down, any suggestions on how to?

    Like anything, even if prostitution is legalized like you said there will always be a black market on it. There will always be a problem of human trafficking. Human trafficking is a worldwide problem and it's terrible. On dateline they went to Thailand and this boy that was about 12 years old was pimping out his sister who could not have been more than 8 or 9. Not to mention there were various brothels that had numerous young girls and when I say young I mean pre-teen. Their childhoods robbed from them without a choice. Its cruel and disgusting nature. The poor children don't have a choice whereas a lot of girls in America and other countries DO have a choice and they make the wrong decision but once again they make that choice as opposed to seeking employment and education.Then there are the strippers that "are just doing it to pay their way through college"…how many can actually show you a degree after 6 years of swinging from the brass?

From a legal standpoint, I'm wondering if they are hdetermined to end up in a courtroom. Of course, my following concern is that while eBay is said to own 25% of the company, they have yet to comment on the subject.

    I've always thought prostitution would be a lot less problematic if it were legal… I've never solicited a prostitute but rural Nevada seems to be able to keep there shit in control a lil' better than the rest of the country ie more people gravitate toward legal prostitutes because there is no risk of disease arrest etc. Illegal prostitution would always exist since there are deviant sexual fetishes that would never fall in line with standardized requirements to be a legal prostitute like the kind they have in Nevada. Still, it'd help eh?
