Mother charged with stealing baby items to sell on Internet:
We have another Mother of the Year candidate here.

It seems that one Kamara Christine Vasilakos allegedly left he 8-month old baby home alone while she tried to steal $620 of baby formula from a Target store so she could sell the stolen formula on craigslist.

On March 25, Redwood City police arrested Vasilakos at the Target store in Redwood City after she was reportedly caught stealing $620 worth of baby formula. Vasilakos reportedly told the officer her baby was at home with a relative but a welfare check turned up the infant alone and crying in its crib.

Police reported that Vasilakos left the child and headed to Target shortly after her husband left home for softball practice. The officer also told prosecutors Vasilakos was on a binge of stealing baby formula and diapers to sell on the Internet site Craigslist. Vasilakos’ ad was found on the site, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

One of the more unusual stolen goods I’ve read about being offered on craigslist. Still waiting to hear about that kidney.

Legal experts absolve craigslist on sex ads:
A fancy lawyerin’ type person says that craigslist is not responsible for their ads for illegal stuff like drugs and prostitution.

In the wake of an FBI raid on the home of a Sacramento photographer for allegedly posting photos of underage prostitutes on craigslist, experts said the huge online classified site has no responsibility for policing such behavior.

In fact, federal law specifically exempts online services from such liability, said Lauren Gelman, associate director of the Center for Internet and Society at Stanford University Law School.

Gelman said the federal Communications Decency Act, passed in 1996, exempts online services such as craigslist, America Online and Yahoo from liability for the content that their users post.

“If craigslist was accused of committing a criminal act, they would be liable,” Gelman said. “But for hosting pictures, there wouldn’t be any liability.”

Well isn’t that special? That still doesn’t change it from being a wretched hive of scum and villainy. They may not be legally responsible but how about, I know this is a foreign concept to most, morally responsible? It’s only a matter of time before one of these girls gets killed if one hasn’t been already. Not to mention the fact that these ads are advertising things that are illegal. I know, you think prostitution and drugs should be legal. That’s fine. If they’re ever legalized we won’t have to have this conversation. Until then in my mind craigslist is an accessory to drugs, prostitution, and God only knows what else.

FBI investigates allegations of underage prostitution on Craigslist:
More allegations of underage prostitution on everyone’s favorite website of scum and villainy, craigslist. Two girls out of Sacramento, California, ages 14 and 17, were found to have had ads on craigslist’s “erotic services” section.

The affidavit describes the “erotic” ads as facilitating communication between prostitutes and clients, complete with code words calling the prostitutes “providers” and the clients “hobbyists.”

The Sacramento site’s erotic offerings include many women posting images of their genitals and listing prices for half-hour and hour-long sessions. One ad depicts a pregnant woman, posts a phone number and offers to show callers that “pregnant women do it better.”

The affidavit indicates that the underage girls allegedly photographed by Moore show the 14-year-old girl nude and touching herself suggestively. The 17-year-old’s ad offers various styles of sex and promises: “I will guarantee to fulfill all your naughty fantasies.”

As usual, craigslist had a non-answer.

The Sacramento case is the latest to focus legal scrutiny on Craigslist and prostitution ads on the highly popular Internet site. Craigslist has been linked in news accounts to prostitution stings from New York City suburbs to Chicago to Seattle. The company did not respond to a request for comment for this story.

I wonder why?

Mid-State Couple Jailed For Tormenting Man’s Ex-Wife:
Short article…

A Middle Tennessee couple is under arrest for what investigators describe is tormenting of the man’s ex-wife.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, a number of different internet sites were used to make the woman’s life miserable.

TBI agents said the woman charged in this case used internet dating websites to harass the Hermitage woman.

The couple also put the woman’s furniture up for sale on CraigsList.com. The phony ad even included the victim’s phone number.

Kathryn Hulsey, 48, is now facing 37 counts, charged with stalking, invasion of privacy, criminal impersonation and identity theft.

Her husband, 43-year-old Thomas Hulsey faces just a single count of invasion of privacy. The victim, said investigators is his ex-wife.

If this kind of behavior keeps up I’m going to have to start a harassment category.

Police blotter: Unbrotherly love in Craigslist sex ad:
It’s not what you think but this is still one for the ages.

Michael Taffaro, of Bergen County, N.J., was involved in an estate dispute with his sister Susan. He posted a sex ad on craigslist claiming to be taken out by his sister.

A mysterious posting subsequently appeared on Craigslist.org, the popular community Web site, purporting to be from Susan. It amounted to, in the words of one judge, “a salacious offer of sexual favors” that was “extremely objectionable” and involved “deviant sex acts.”

Considering Mr. Taffaro was ordered by a judge not have any contact with his sister, directly or indirectly, the court was not pleased.

Police were able to trace to ad back to Mr. Taffaro’s computer but he denied it stating that two of his friends posted the ad while using his pc.

He was charged with 4th degree contempt and during the trial again tried to blame it on his friends.

According to a transcript of Taffaro’s testimony: “(Ng and Portela) are saying, ‘Oh, don’t worry about it. It’s a static IP, they can never trace it.’ I said, ‘Look, get that thing off, I’m not going to get even with my sister by doing something stupid. I’ve got an inheritance battle. I can’t do nuttin stupid.’”

So not only did he harrass his sister but tried to pin the blame on his friends. Here’s a thought. Don’t let your “friends” use your pc. Then you won’t get blamed for “sumthin stupid”.

Man arrested after trying to sell stolen car parts back to original owner:
The black market known as craigslist has struck again. This time a man from Fremont California called police and told them that parts stolen off his car we’re being sold on craigslist. Police had him arrange a meeting with the seller and when the meeting went down police swarmed the seller. The seller claimed that he bought the parts off the street and didn’t know they were stolen. Police are looking for the man who sold the parts to the seller.

How long will it be before you can get a kidney on craigslist?

Police arrest woman, 18, in robbery, still seek second suspect:
According to the article San Ramon, California police arrested one 18-year-old Diane Gomes for taking part in a home invasion. Apparently Gomes convinced the 53-year-old male victim to meet her through craigslist.

Since the robbery took place at 4am I can imagine what kind of meeting the victim must have been expecting.

craigslist, where doing business is like taking your life in your hands.

Cops say man offered cocaine in Craigslist ad:
Let the dumbassity commence.

The advertisement on Craigslist New York said the man would supply cocaine to any female who responded.

We really don’t need to go any further but we will.

Well, detectives from the Garden City Police Department were no doubt stunned when they found the ad. They contacted detectives from the Nassau County Police Department narcotics bureau, who had a female officer respond to the advertisement and arrange to meet the man.

Nassau police said when Joshua W. O’Neil, 32, of Albany, met the female officer Tuesday night in Garden City, he offered her crack cocaine in exchange for “sexual favors.”

The only “favor” O’Neil received, police said, was being placed under arrest.

Way to go there Scarface.

It seems that the Portland, Oregon area is having a problem with stolen utility trailers. Take a guess as to where they’re being sold. I’ll give you a hint. It rhymes with dregslist. It seems that the suspects would haul off the trailers, strip and repaint them and sell them on craigslist. Police have arrested one Andrew Culbert but his female cohort Linda Shearer is still at large. Police have also arrested 37-year-old Brian Judd. Police say that at least 1,000 trailers have been stolen.

Who needs a back alley anymore to sell stolen goods when craigslist makes it more convenient?

Man charged with theft in home rental scheme:
Kenneth Colvin of Venice, California was arrested in connection with a craigslist real estate scam.

Redondo Beach Police Sgt. Peter Grimm said Kenneth Colvin, 28, went so far as to break into a few of the empty dwellings to give tours to prospective renters who responded to an ad for rental property on the website craigslist.com.

Colvin has been charged with two felony counts of grand theft and two felony counts of attempted grand theft.

I would be very hesitant to do any kind of business on craigslist, especially real estate.
